The Role: Senior Editor, Americas News, Oil

Grade ( relevant for internal applicants only ): 10

The Location: Washington D.C., Houston

The Team: Your manager will be the head of Regulatory/Policy News for the Americas, but you will also interact with the managers of natural gas and LNG news, as well as editors and writers covering the Energy Transition from other commodity perspectives. You will be surrounded by experienced journalists and analysts committed to accuracy, fairness, timeliness and relevancy. It's a fast-paced newsroom environment that is congenial and professional.

What's in it for you: The Platts culture emphasizes growth and development - and rewards initiative. You will collaborate with and learn from a diverse universe of colleagues in offices around the world. Training is available to aid development of all aspects of your career. Your peers will support you and value the contributions you make to your team.

Responsibilities: You will report on oil markets and the industry in the Americas, with emphasis on North America policy, regulation and related federal and state government activity. Content you create (stories, graphs, infographics, podcasts, webcasts, webinars, etc.) will be focused on the policy and regulatory impacts on supply/demand and prices, with the support of fellow news reporters, data and analysis from Platts Analytics and Platts oil and gas price benchmarks.

Your major area of focus will be US energy policy, including any federal and state environmental regulations, international sanctions and disputes that impact oil markets. You will be expected to think ahead, covering potential developments and shifts in US policies.
You will be comfortable interviewing government and business leaders for Platts' weekly Capitol Crude podcast.

We are looking for a journalist who can develop reliable sources in government and non-government organizations, with the aim of producing forward-looking breaking news stories. You should also be able to mine government reports and market data to produce data-driven stories. Platts news showcases the company's commodity price benchmarks and analytics to deliver market-relevant insight that is unavailable anywhere else. People read Platts news because it helps them make profit-critical decisions.

What We're Looking For: You must write well and be numerate. Data visualization skills are important as an increasing portion of our content is presented graphically. A commitment to the highest journalistic standards is expected. A curiosity about the energy industry -- energy commodities in particular - will provide a resourceful self-starter with plenty to write about. A sharp understanding of the ongoing US energy transition, along with natural gas markets and regulation, will be an advantage.
The person who will succeed in this job will be passionate about reporting, understanding complicated subject matter and effectively communicating in multiple formats. Explaining market, industry and government developments clearly and concisely for a time-starved audience is the key. Working well with an experienced, talented group of colleagues also is a must.
