A Career with Point72's Legal Team

It is Point72 Legal's mission to deliver exceptional legal services in a manner that promotes the Firm's performance with the utmost integrity. Our Legal Department supports all Point72 groups globally with practical advice on a variety of complex legal and regulatory matters in an ever-changing, dynamic environment.

What you'll do
In this role, the Legal Assistant will work for and alongside attorneys in the Financing and Transaction Management Group. The Financing and Transaction Management Group is a division of the Legal Department whose main purpose is to finance the firm's assets globally, to negotiate and manage the legal agreements associated with the firm's global flow trading business (e.g., prime brokerage, derivatives, repurchase agreements, etc.), and to counsel traders and others with respect to these agreements, their uses and market practices. The role is analogous to a paralegal position, however there is significant growth potential for a proven candidate who is detail-oriented, motivated, and a self-starter and who demonstrates the ability and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and review various legal agreements, including: non-disclosure, prime brokerage, electronic trading, derivatives, and repurchase agreements
  • Communicate and coordinate internally with other Point72 departments, including Treasury, Finance, Investor Services, Operations and Tax, and externally with brokers, banks and key trading counterparties on finance/margin terms, fund structure and related topics
  • Handle all aspects of finalizing trade finance agreements with counterparties, broker/dealers, and outside counsel, including follow-up on outstanding agreements to obtain counter-signatures
  • Distribute, collect and file legal documents related to trade finance
  • Assist in the execution and tracking of different legal finance agreements as well as identify and analyze key terms in such agreements
  • Organize and maintain status sheets, prepare documents for signature, and send status updates to internal clients
  • Complete "Know Your Client" and onboarding requests from trading counterparties
  • Review and confirm derivative trade confirmations
  • Assist in the completion of various regulatory filings, including SEC and NFA filings
  • Draft, edit, and comment on a variety of legal agreements, documents and forms
Applicants may be required to provide a writing sample and undertake a written exercise (estimated completion time - several hours) designed to give them a sense of the work and whether the position would be a good fit.

What's required
  • Attention to detail and the tenacity to produce meticulous work product
  • Highly organized, process driven, and structured
  • A self-starter, efficient, positive and able to work independently
  • Able to juggle many tasks at once under pressure, prioritize such tasks and see each through to completion (the environment is fast-paced and challenging)
  • Exceptional reading and writing skills
  • Outstanding communication skills and interpersonal skills - the work is often team based and requires one to be relationship oriented
  • Adaptable and willing to accept varied assignments across a broad range of responsibilities
  • Adept at addressing questions and seeking appropriate resources to resolve open items or attain additional information as required
  • Basic/intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proven academic and work achievement
  • Understanding of hedge/investment fund structures desired, but not required
  • At least one year of relevant experience as a paralegal (or similar role) desired, but not required
