Your Role

The Counsel for Private Funds and Managed Accounts will be based in AQR's Greenwich, CT office and will work closely with AQR's Head of Legal Private Funds and Accounts and other team members to advise on various legal matters relating to the activities of the firm and specifically, the firm's institutional asset management business, including, e.g., separately managed accounts, traditional long-only benchmark driven products, private funds and collective investment trusts. Responsibilities will include negotiating investment management agreements, side letter agreements with institutional investors, drafting of private placement memoranda, limited partnership agreements, structuring various institutional products, and counseling internal teams on all matters related to the above.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of structuring and advising private funds, negotiating investment management agreements for separately managed accounts and at least 3 years of work experience at a major international law firm or institutional asset manager. Candidates must have strong analytical abilities, excellent communication and writing skills and the ability to identify and analyze issues in a fast-paced and rapidly changing business environment. The ideal candidate will need to have a demonstrated ability to apply and efficiently communicate legal knowledge in a business context.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Outstanding academic credentials are required
  • A Law Degree
  • Extensive experience structuring and advising hedge funds
  • 3 or more years at a major international law firm or institutional asset manager
  • Excellent business sense and demonstrated ability to apply legal knowledge in a business context
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, well organized, and proven ability to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
  • Able to multitask, take initiative and work well in a team-oriented
  • Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional and trustworthy with confidential and sensitive information
