The Role: Senior Principal Technical Solutions Architect

The Location: Englewood, Colorado or Tetbury, United Kingdom

The Team: The senior technical solutions Architect role is a position within the ENR Data team, and will lead the team in the requirement analysis, define best practices in Development and configuration of end user applications and/or systems software. This role interacts with executive leadership and others concerning matters of significance to the organization and makes decisions that have a considerable impact on the overall success or failure of their area of accountability. This role strictly follows teams short to mid-term strategy execution and operational direction in alignment with ENR Data team objectives.

The Knowledge Technical Service Team from S&P Global Commodity Insights is responsible to ensure the highest quality data is stored and delivered via company-wide data governance strategies for the purpose of improving the efficiency and increasing the profitability of the business units we serve. Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle which includes technical design, implementation, documentation, testing, deployment, and support.

The Impact: The Senior Principal Technical Solutions Architect position will focus on the project Phoenix initiative centers on Land Cartographic data, carbon capture underground storage, emissions, and water injection management. Emphasis will be on database management strategies, data modelling, UAT testing and the requirements to populate the corporate International IRIS and North American Unified Data Model.

You will work alongside an exciting research team comprised of regional experts and experienced geoscientists. You will have the opportunity to upskill in geoscience tools such as ArcGIS, Kingdom and SQL Developer. You will build your knowledge around the wider upstream industry as it, and S&P Global, adapts and evolves with the energy transition, and you'll be a key contact for geological information in your region for both internal and external clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Building the database management requirements and data population strategies for data relating to Carbon Capture Underground storage, North American emissions, U.S. Land and Water Injection Management.
  • Understanding the target to source workflows and corporate database models
  • Design and implement end to end solutions for Software applications and data strategies
  • Ability to partner with the business functions on developing the business outcome (answering a business question, defining a business problem)
  • Generate data management artifacts, like data models, ETL source-to-target mapping, data dictionaries, data flow diagrams and testing use cases
  • Consults and advises leadership in determining and developing application strategies and effective integration of these strategies to meet organization-wide business needs.
  • Examines and identifies database structural necessities by evaluating applications, and programming.
  • Oversees the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions.
  • Monitors the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features.
  • Be proactive with best practices using modern data platforms such as Snowflake etc.
  • Strong in gaining knowledge of new technologies across data management disciplines and conduct proof of concepts of well-established and innovative enterprise software tools.
  • Ability to analyze sophisticated data and ability to communicate data management concepts to technical and non-technical staff, to work independently with minimal direction including the organization and prioritization of tasks to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, accountability, written and verbal communication skills, time management are key competencies to this position.
  • Ability to analyze data to solve problems and drive improvement to current processes and develop impactful solutions using new technologies.
  • Proven experience in information systems with an emphasis on development, enhancement, and support projects in Oracle / Postgres /Snowflake / AWS Cloud / Non-Relational applications and data staging.
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving skills and design techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel. Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a project team.
What We're Looking For:
  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience. Post-graduate geoscience qualification preferred
  • 6-10 years' experience working with database development, SQL queries, data structures, Extract transform load (either using ETL tools or Python), application programming interface (API) architecture, and microservices (either using .net core or Java )
  • 6-8 years' experience in software development lifecycle activities
  • Experience in end-to-end design and build of near-real time and batch data pipelines
  • Familiarity with delivering data solutions and architecture using Amazon Web Services (AWS) services like Kinesis, Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3), Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Spark, Athena, Redshift, Lambda, Relational Database Service (RDS), DynamoDB and Athena preferred
  • Experience with most of the data file formats like, csv, xml, JSON, Parque
  • Familiarity with data architecture, data integration, data governance, and data lineage concepts
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Business Intelligence/Reporting Tools: Power BI
  • Hands-on experience with key AWS services and Docker.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with building productized data ingestion processing pipelines using Python.
  • Hands-on experience working on production-grade data warehousing solutions on large-scale data technologies such as Oracle, Snowflake, and Postgres.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines is essential
  • Ability to excel both individually and as part of the team, personally driving strong, collaborative relationships across the Central Team and wider regional teams
  • Self-starter, resourceful and independent thinker that is detail oriented

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $125,900 to $250,300. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
