ServiceNow Discovery & Service Mapping Engineer

Grade Level: 12 (internal use only)
Location: Centennial, CO, Princeton, NJ, NYC or Virtual within proximity of an office in these locations

The Team: You will join a small, but dedicated, Config/Discovery team that is responsible to ensure our CMDB/CI's health metrics are kept current and updated in our ServiceNow CMDB through daily discovery jobs and discovery/MID server configuration best practices. Our CMDB engineer is located on the East coast with the support team located in India. The Discovery Engineer position in the U.S. would add to our India team to help support round the clock discovery remediation efforts to maintain current and accurate data. You will be working with your counterpart in India and heavily involved in daily updates with the team here in the U.S.

The Impact: This highly impactful role will contribute to the business by providing the team and divisions accurate information that support ITSM processes and reporting metrics.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $82,600 - $230,200. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus/a sales commission plan.

CMDB Discovery/Service Mapping Engineer

SUMMARY:

The CMDB Discovery/Service Mapping Engineer is part of the CMDB and Asset Management team. Service mapping/Discovery plays a key role in maintaining critical platforms to enable the IT team to successfully plan changes and manage incidents in the environment along with maintaining an accurate CMDB. The Service mapping/Discovery engineer will gather requirements and implement the service mapping for key services at S&P Global. They will also create/maintain the Service Mapping to ensure its ongoing health through routine health checks as it relates to Service Mapping and all CMDB discovery related functions (troubleshooting, creating & maintaining discovery schedules, pattern remediations).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with process owners to understand the process requirements related to the capture of configuration data and develop technical specifications and solutions
  • Work with systems managers to ensure that the Discovery tool has the appropriate access and permissions to capture configuration information
  • Creation of custom discovery patterns as needed
  • Discovery troubleshooting and pattern remediation
  • Provide visibility to the performance and issues related to Discovery
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure Architects to understand IT technology strategy that guide which requirements need to be gathered
  • Work with Application SMEs to create and validate Service Maps for key applications
  • Participate in Configuration Management meetings and Story Time where appropriate
  • Perform day to day administration of the ServiceNow Service Mapping and Discovery tool, including mapping additional defined business services into the tool as defined
  • Maintain the integrity of the Service Mapping tool across production and non-production environments
  • Assisting in troubleshooting patch / release management issues, and upgrades
  • Review the data being populated into the CMDB and act as partial owner of the CMDB
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping
  • Minimum of 5 years working in large scale configuration management databases or related IT organization
  • Experience working with LDAP, Active Directory and SUDO highly desirable
  • Experience integrating with tools to federate data into a CMDB
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Good interpersonal skills, including collaboration, communication, relationship building, and negotiation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools; Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Intermediate Windows and Unix administration skills
  • Familiarity with network concepts (routers, switches, firewalls, NAT, load balancing)
  • Familiarity with the following concepts: XML, and JSON/script language
  • Familiarity with Tanium
  • Ability to discuss credentials, install a product, troubleshoot permission issues, discuss and trouble shoot network connectivity with network engineers
  • Acquaintance with Web and Application Servers, Load Balancers, Databases, and Virtualization (WebSphere, MQ, IIS, Apache, VMware)
