Director, Early Stage Client Acquisition

The Early Stage team at SVB is curious, bright, and proudly diverse in professional and personal background. Our backgrounds run the gamut, from Microsoft, Techstars, Nike, Y Combinator, Social Capital, operating roles at early and growth stage startups, consulting firms, law firms, accounting firms, and everywhere in between. The Early Stage team is focused on engaging and building authentic relationships with pre-Series A founders, clients, prospects and partners. We are proud that over 50% of all venture-backed companies globally are clients of SVB, and this relationship begins at the Early Stage Practice.

The primary responsibility of this Director level role is to enable founder success as a senior evangelist and ambassador for SVB and our clients in market. The ESP team is focused on engaging and building deep and authentic relationships with early stage founders, investors, and ecosystem partners to improve the probability of success of early stage companies around the world. Utilizing data-driven insights, this catalytic member of the team will focus on facilitating access to capital, customers and talent for our market leading startups.
We are looking for a professional who is embedded in the startup ecosystem for this incredibly unique role the right person is innately curious, loves to connect people and ideas, dives into data at a deep level and is passionate about supporting founders and their teams, all within the Early Stage (pre-Series A) community.
The Director will develop authentic relationships with influential and impactful organizations and individuals in the startup ecosystem, resulting in growth of market share and acquisition of high potential companies (i.e. those with a high likelihood of raising a Series A round).
This role will lead the development of a systematic approach through the creation of programs and curated events that help SVB clients connect to potential customers and catalytic partners to drive growth.
As an ambassador for SVB, the Director will be active in the market, represent SVB at industry events, deliver educational and advisory content for founders in collaboration with our global partners.

Required startup experience and knowledge base:
Experience as a founder, head of sales, or director of customer success at a venture-funded startup or deep involvement as an operator in the startup ecosystem for 5+ years
Active participation in the startup community, including advisory or mentorship roles with entrepreneurs and early-stage companies
Knowledge of business development, customer acquisition, design thinking methodology, and startup recruitment/talent acquisition best practices
Knowledge of common sales, growth, and revenue generating strategies that drive early stage company success
Ability to serve as a senior brand ambassador
