Director, Product Management Lead - Operations Experience

San Francisco / New York / Princeton / Boston

This product leadership role in Aladdin Wealth Tech is responsible for setting and implementing the Operations Experience roadmap for BlackRock's Separately Managed Account (SMA) business. We are on a journey to build the industry's leading platform for outsourced personalized portfolios. The SMA Tech team owns the technology footprint of our SMA business, responsible for building, buying, and operating the technology underpinning our ambitions. SMA Tech is a multidisciplinary team of approximately 45 product managers, engineers, UX designers, and QA professionals. This role leads the Operations Experience vertical, leading a team of 2-3 PMs with dedicated engineering teams to developed highly scaled and delightful operational experiences for operations professionals and financial advisors. The role reports directly to the Head of Product for SMA Tech.

We are looking for an outstanding individual with deep experience in the U.S. wealth management or SMA ecosystems, a shown ability to reinvent complex operational processes with technology, and significant depth in the product management field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set the Operations Experience roadmap. The product director is responsible for primary authorship of the product roadmap for the Operations Experience vertical, including establishing and evangelizing a technology vision.
  • Implement the roadmap. Convert the roadmap into robust specifications and efficiently develop those as enterprise-grade software in close, hands-on partnership with your engineering counterparts.
  • Market expertise. Solid understanding and student of the U.S. wealth management and/or SMA ecosystem. Able to draw on market intel to inform roadmap and technology design decisions.
  • Product Management. Brings a depth of product management experience and a passion for infusing the subject area across the business. Able to author and complete ambitious and achievable roadmaps, to prioritize among competing opportunities, and to drive execution with UX and engineering counterparts.
  • Commercially Oriented. Understand the economics of the wealth market, technology firms, and BlackRock, and able to drive economic decisions in roadmap planning, prioritization, and resource allocation.
  • Technical savvy. Able to envision and craft technically-feasible integrations, leading detailed specification work with our product and engineering teams, and taking into account user experience, operational scale, and implementation cost. Able to engage in substantive debate on technical architecture decisions.
  • Stakeholder management. This role engages directly with the SMA Head of Operations as well as our Portfolio Management, Sales, and L&C teams These teams are our partners. The product director is encouraged to develop positive relationships with senior partners and design and implement the engagement model between the Operations Experience product team and internal partner teams.


Desired Qualifications
  • 8+ years of meaningful experience in wealth management or asset management in product management or technology-centric roles
  • Track record of developing and launching new technology products
  • Proven ability to manage a product management team, including mentoring junior product managers
  • Proven ability to lead a range of internal partners, including senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize market feedback to drive new product development or new commercial strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations and communicate up and down the organization
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and planning skills
  • Strong technical abilities with an ability and desire to get in the weeds
