Associate - Investment Banking - Technology Equity Capital Markets
Group Description: The Jefferies Equity Capital Markets ("ECM") group originates and executes public and private equity offerings, as well as equity-linked financings for our global clients. Our team partners with the firm's investment banking professionals advising corporations, private companies, and financial sponsors globally on equity issuance and other aspects of the equity markets. ECM professionals are organized by sector, product and region. Our ECM team liaises with sales professionals, traders and research analysts in our global equities group. The interaction between these groups provides us with excellent market intelligence, industry knowledge and execution capabilities. Jefferies is consistently ranked as a leading underwriter of equities and is experienced in executing all equity products including IPOs, follow-ons, block trades, private placements and convertible securities.


Position : The Technology ECM team is actively looking for an experienced Associate level individual for our San Francisco office.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Vice Chairman of Equity Capital Markets and Head of West Coast Technology Investment Banking
  • Pitch and execute U.S. ECM deals including IPOs, follow-on equity offerings, block equity trades, convertible offerings, and other equity-related product offerings
  • Assist with strategic and financial analysis for preparation of pitch documentation and liaise with relevant global investment banking and sales and trading teams
  • Play an active role in the execution of mandated deals through client advisory work, the structuring and negotiation of legal documents and the coordination of distribution
  • Help maintain dialogue and relationships with existing ECM clients through continual marketing and advisory efforts with investment banking and financial sponsor teams, as well as the preparation of instructive materials and thoughtful analyses
  • Help advise private companies on positioning and marketing strategies, key performance indicators, competitive differentiation, TAM sizing and valuation methodologies to achieve the best transaction outcomes
  • Prepare materials for issuers regarding market performance, sector-specific market themes, institutional shareholders, and precedent transactions to analyze potential issuance backdrop
  • Attend client meetings across the U.S. with senior bankers
  • Manage a range of non-standard and one-off assignments pertaining to economic, equity market, sector-specific or client-specific topics
  • Work with coverage officers to identify, research and target potential ECM clients
  • Manage junior bankers in day-to-day tasks and projects within the ECM team
  • Assist with the build out of the ECM platform through recruiting, training and infrastructure development, as well as ad-hoc business analyses
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other market participants, advisors and the investment community


Qualifications
Required Background:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (or equivalent); preferred Finance or Accounting related studies
  • Understanding of ECM and previous experience in an ECM team is preferred
  • Strong financial and analytical skills essential
  • Rigorous eye for detail
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a number of different workstreams in a high velocity environment
  • Ability to efficiently teach, train, manage and work with junior team members
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Insightful, reasonable and a self-starter
  • Proficiency in market data systems, inclusive of Bloomberg, Dealogic, FactSet and CapIQ

Desired Experience / Skills:

  • Experience and interest in covering the Technology sector
  • Knowledge of financial modelling preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
