SVP, Alternative Operations

Position Description

The SVP of Alternative Operations will grow and manage a team of people located Newport Beach, CA, London, and New York supporting PIMCO's Alternatives business, which includes complex hedge funds and private equity vehicles. The SVP will engage key stakeholders including Portfolio Management, Legal, Compliance, and Finance to ensure that the operational aspects of PIMCO's alternatives business are designed to enable future growth of the business The SVP will also oversee operational aspects of service providers supporting the alternatives business, and will be the primary leader responsible for ensuring that a wide variety of core alternative operational processes are developed, streamlined, and executed with excellence by the team amidst continued growth of the business. Examples of these processes include deal facilitation, income accounting and collection, document custody tracking, cash wire controls, physical security registration, whole loan processing, and others.

The SVP of Alternatives Operations will be based in Newport Beach, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and manage a small, growing team (currently 2 full time employees)
  • Maintain inventory, flow out, and lead the documentation of core alternatives processes and implement Key Risk Indicators
  • "Clean-Sheet" the servicing model for deal capture through shadow record-keeping
  • Build relationships with corporate trustees to facilitate income collection
  • Build relationships with other stakeholders affiliated with the Alternatives business throughout PIMCO
  • Engage internally with the Technology Department to create localized systems that facilitate key aspects of cash management / cash allocation for multi-sleeve products
  • Work with the Alternatives Finance team on fund development and deal facilitation

Experience
  • Experience in private equity deal facilitation, particularly for joint venture real estate transactions
  • Experience with common private equity frameworks from booking and settlement through accounting and maintenance of deals post settlement.
  • Experience with facilitating operational support for whole loan, loan pools and real estate deals
  • Worked on remediation payment issues associated with securitizations
  • Knowledge of MBS, RMBS and CMBS securitizations and transactions processes- ability to analyze and document them
  • Worked with governing and Trust documentation with respect to structured securities
  • Some experience in processing Structured/physical deals is a bonus too
  • Knowledge of physical security registration process
  • Proven leader of key service providers such as custody and accounting roles of service providers
  • Understanding of private equity legal structures in Luxembourg a plus
  • Some dealings with real estate transactions requiring loan level management with servicers a plus

Position Requirements

  • 5-10 years' Alternatives operations experience
  • Solid understanding of whole loans, repos of whole loans, syndicated loans, distressed mortgages, CMO issuance, and corporate trust activities
  • Solid understanding of derivative products (including OTC, Cleared, and exotic structures)
  • Solid process engineering capabilities such as six-sigma lite or the equivalent
  • Solid understanding of fund accounting across complex asset classes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for client meetings
  • CFA, MBA or equivalent
  • Proven track record managing teams with complex securities processing tasks
  • 15+ years' experience in relevant functions
  • Technology experience; in particular, strong familiarity with trade order management, internal record-keeping, accounting, and fixed income processing systems
