The firm is seeking to add two pre-MBA associates. The ideal candidates will have 2-4 years of investment banking analyst experience.

FIRM

Founded over 30 years ago, The Yucaipa Companies is a Los Angeles-based multibillion-dollar family office that has completed hundreds of private equity transactions valued in aggregate at over $30 billion.  Our deals fall in a broad range of categories ranging from growth capital, mature buyouts and turnarounds.  We invest both in control and non-control situations throughout the capital structure, though generally focused on controlling equity investments.  We are an active investor in our portfolio companies and work closely with management to drive operational improvements and pursue strategic opportunities.

One of the positions is targeting a candidate with a background in real estate transactions while the other position is generalist.  Responsibilities of the positions include:

  • Identifying and evaluating new investment opportunities.
  • Leading the financial modeling, due diligence and market analysis on live transactions.
  • Working with company management as part of ongoing portfolio oversight and reporting.
  • Driving business development initiatives to add value to portfolio companies.
  • Interacting with the firm’s limited partners and other outside co-investors.

REQUIREMENTS

The firm operates lean deal teams of usually 2-3 transaction professionals, giving the Associate a critical and high-visibility role.  Requirements include:

  • 2-4 years of experience as an investment banking analyst.  M&A transactional experience preferred but not required.
  • Deep financial modeling experience is imperative, including an understanding of complex capital structures.
  • Must be a self-starter who can take high-level direction and then develop and execute a plan to completion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including in PowerPoint.
  • For the real estate candidate, experience in hotels/hospitality is a plus.
  • Desire to locate permanently in Los Angeles.

TIMING & DURATION: Immediate start.  This position has no ceiling on duration and can lead to a partner track for top performers.

COMPENSATION: Competitive base and bonus.
