Investment Director of Active Equities Salary £105,000 plus a DC Pension Plan Based in the Midlands LGPS Central is looking for an experienced investor to join our Investment Committee in the position of Investment Director, Active Equities. Based in the Midlands (Wolverhampton or Matlock), the successful candidate will work closely with the CIO and fellow Committee members to build a professional, high performing Active Equities investment function across both locations.

Role Purpose

Based in the Midlands (Wolverhampton or Matlock investment Offices), The Investment Director of Active Equities will work closely with the CIO in Wolverhampton and fellow Committee members to build a professional, high performing Active Equities investment function across both locations.

As a member of the Investment Committee, will have the opportunity to influence the investor style and culture of LGPS Central. This will include: working with the CIO to establish a robust decision-making framework for the allocation of assets to the Active Equities portfolio; the establishment, oversight and monitoring of the internally managed Active Equities portfolio; ensuring that the size and skill base of the Active Equities team always meets the Partner Funds’ needs; and supporting the CEO, CIO and Investor Relations team in communications with the Partner Funds.

Role Responsibilities
• Management of the c£7bn Active Equities portfolio.
• Develop and deliver active equity strategies which meet the needs of the Partner Funds, keeping strategies under review considering market developments.
• Develop a robust decision making framework for the allocation of assets to the Active Equities portfolio, including the establishment, oversight and monitoring of all portfolio holdings, keeping the framework and current allocations under review.
• Actively support and champion the integration and maintenance of the house view on Responsible Investment and the Risk and Compliance Framework into the investment process and culture of the investment team.
• Participate actively in the Investment Committee, overseeing and advising on investment portfolios, contributing to the investment strategy of the Pool, devising and delivering transparent and repeatable investment processes which meet the investment targets of the Partner Funds.
• Deliver value for money for Partner Funds whilst identifying opportunities to improve the investment capacity, capability and skills of the investment team.
• Be an ambassador for LGPS Central within the investment community, Partner Funds, and with regulators and key stakeholders.
• Provide assurance to the CIO that the Active Equities portfolio is managed within the parameters set in the Prospectus and the IMA, and Corporate policies.
• Manage risk and compliance in accordance with the Risk and Compliance Framework, and as directed by the CRCO.
• Support the ID Manager of Managers to develop the “External Manager of Managers Process” and then ensure that it is applied across all external portfolios.
• Champion a rigorous culture of high performing, collaborative, research based investing across LGPS Central.
• Line management and personal development of the Active Equities team.

Key Requirements

• Substantial relevant experience of collaborative investment decision making and portfolio management at a senior level.
• Demonstrates and can articulate portfolio construction and investment selection skills.
• Can evaluate performance and risk of investment portfolios objectively.
• Experience of management and oversight of internal and external investment portfolios across multiple asset classes.
• Has successfully built, run and developed high performing investment teams.
• CFA or equivalent qualification/ relevant investment experience.
• Has or can meet all the requirements of being a FCA CF 30 approved person.
• High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas.
• Excellent judgement and analytical skills.
• First class interpersonal, people management and communication skills.

First class interpersonal, people management and communication skills are essential for this position. The successful candidate will have experience of managing and overseeing investment portfolios and take direct responsibility for the management of the £7bn Active Equities portfolio.

The post holder is expected to have substantial relevant experience of collaborative investment decision making and portfolio management at a senior level. They will hold a CFA or equivalent qualification or have relevant investment experience and can meet all the requirements of being a FCA CF 30 approved person.
