This Programme Director role is the technology facing partner to both the Personal Investing and Stockbroking businesses and has ultimate ownership and responsibility for their portfolios and its delivery. This role faces-off to the Channel and Product Heads and their senior management teams across the UK.

Department Description

The organisation is responsible for providing Technology solutions to the Financial Services business group across FIL locations within the UK, Continental Europe and Asia. The Financial services business group comprises of a number of departments and services covering, Personal Investing, Advisory Platform, Wholesale and Retirement solutions and their corresponding operational support functions including Operational Processing, Risk and Customer Service. In addition the technology function itself is based across Asia, India, the UK and Dublin. Travel to these technology and business locations is part of this role.

The business is going through a number of strategic changes which technology is a critical component of, including the re-platforming of its UK Personal Investing and Advisor Platform business which is a multi-year programme of work. This programme provides not only a new platform for the business but also new responsive web sites, new documentation solutions, new call centre application and other critical data components. Other strategic initiatives include a strategic review of our Global defined contribution pension business aimed at providing a better service for our multi-national clients.

The technology organisation itself, is also engaged in leading FIL's adoption of Agile and Product aligned behaviours and practices as part of the SIMTech (Simplify and IMprove Technology) programme, this is also a multi-year programme with objectives to create a more efficient and scalable operating model for the delivery of ever more complex and rapidly changing requirements of our customers

The Role

This Programme Director role is the technology facing partner to both the Personal Investing and Stockbroking businesses and has ultimate ownership and responsibility for their portfolios and its delivery. This role faces-off to the Channel and Product Heads and their senior management teams across the UK.

As the stockbroking business grows it is likely that similar solutions to the UK will be sought in other geographic locations, such as Europe and Asia, as well as partnering with our sister organisation in the US to deliver to a global client need. Therefore travel is highly likely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish a highly effective global delivery team, which is adaptive to technology and business change with a clear focus on providing career opportunity, a 'one-team culture', globally and building an ethos of strong customer focus
  • Establish a group which provides year on year sustained value, effectiveness and efficiency working to year on year measurable targets, goals and objectives and which is closely aligned to the business
  • You will provide oversight and detailed involvement in the portfolio delivery programmes. Leading significant programme deliverables from the front
  • You will have responsibility for the Portfolio budget and reporting all progress via the Investment Committee, maintaining a good governance and reporting discipline at all times
  • Leadership role in driving strategic roadmaps and relationships with partners
  • Leadership role in the wider Technology department, contributing to ideas and innovation
  • Team leadership and coaching - motivating staff and explaining why we are doing what we do and how we do it. Exemplify the behaviours and values of Fidelity and lead and coach the team to foster a culture of pride, trust and empowerment to support our agile ways of working objectives

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • You must be able to clearly demonstrate your experience within a Technology delivery environment, preferably within the financial services industry - Asset management, wealth management or securities trading environment
  • Experience of delivery responsibility for complex programmes of work, multi-year and cross functional with significant technology effort gained from a technology based career path
  • Experience of delivering change to both internally built and vendor supplied solutions
  • Experience of managing multi-million dollar budgets and understanding finance and resource aspects of a technology team
  • Knowledge and experience of managing and delivering technology change within multi location teams
  • Proven track record of effective client management, systems and technologies deliveries, and influencing at the senior-most levels in the organisation.
  • Ability to lead strategic thinking and to communicate effectively, both formally & informally
  • Knowledge and understanding of different delivery methodologies, but especially agile/product model approaches
  • Self starter, team-player, and requiring minimum oversight and guidance. A real "Can Do" attitude with high levels of resilience in high pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills to present to/liaise with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well in a matrix-based and geographically-dispersed organisation.
  • Ability to pick up knowledge of the business, new technology areas, new processes/methodologies and apply these changes in the day-to-day working of the Technology organisation.
  • Experience of leading geographically & culturally diverse teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, confidence and ability to interact professionally with people at all levels.
  • Strong customer awareness and business focus

  • Knowledge and experience in managing development activities around Stockbroking/Security trading.
