The Company is looking to recruit a Financial Controller, who has worked within a FCA, or Gambling Commission regulated business. The successful candidate will benefit from previous knowledge or experience within the spread betting / gambling industry.

Spreadex has been operating for 20 years as a sports and financial spread betting provider. The business expanded to offer fixed odds betting in 2010, casino betting in 2011 and CFD trading in 2017. Spreadex is the only global operator to offer all these services under one brand and has an ambitious growth plan for the next 5 years. This opening provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to join an established accounts team in a vibrant office based in St Albans, just outside London.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Company is looking to recruit a Financial Controller, who has worked within a FCA, or Gambling Commission regulated business. The successful candidate will benefit from previous knowledge or experience within the spread betting / gambling industry. This role sits within the accounts team and will provide support to all areas of the business. As the financial controller you will report direct into the CFO.

This position will provide leadership to the finance department, managing and coaching the accounts team.  It will have full ownership of the end to end accounting process and control environment, including daily, monthly and annual reporting, both internally to the Executive Board and externally to regulators.

Key internal deliverables include, the daily management report, providing a summary of revenue performance by product alongside regulatory and commercial KPI’s for the Executive Directors. It will also provide strategic reviews to the Executive Directors based on annual budgeting, variance analysis and reforecasting. Externally, the Financial Control will be the lead banking and other financial counterparty relationship manager, responsible for all tax calculations and submissions (VAT, CT, Betting & Gaming Duties, Horse Race Levy).

This position will operate during our regular business hours but may be expected to work outside these hours during busier periods.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The successful candidate will be tasked with preparing the monthly management accounts and reports, alongside monthly analysis and interpretation of key non-financial data (including active clients and trade statistics). On a day-by-day basis they will manage the treasury, ensuring adequate cash flow and optimising returns on cash, including currency balances. Further external reporting will include weekly cash flow forecasting (own funds and client money) and the Financial Controller will have responsibility for all regulatory calculations & returns for both the FCA & Gambling Commission, along with associated communications. Centrals and overhead spend of the company, which includes supporting significant contract renewals (rates, insurance, rent etc.) will be managed and overseen by the successful candidate including oversight of payroll including PAYE & Pensions. Finally, the Financial Controller will support the external audit to ensure a timely and efficient process.

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Three plus years’ post qualified experience in a finance manager or Financial Controller position
  • An understanding of FCA regulations having previously worked for a company for a FCA regulated company
  • Ability to work autonomously and with initiative
  • Pro-active and output driven
  • Strong business partnering skills and ability to influence senior management and key stakeholders
  • Good understanding of sports, betting and spread betting and CFDs
  • Experience leading and delivering projects
  • Experience of financial systems and controls
  • Experience of multi-currency Group consolidations and Intercompany accounting
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant field of study
  • Excellent communication with high numeracy skills
  • Previous experience managing a team
