Are you an experienced IT Project Manager? Use your skills to power the transformation and transition of legacy systems, and help people into work, as part of UK government's flagship reform programme.

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work, and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We want to add a Senior Digital Project Manager to our community of tech experts in DWP Digital. Together we're driving a once-in-a-generation transformation of government services, using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to create innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions.

The DWP products and services we maintain and modernise will be used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives. The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our scale and purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

Delivery. Work. Projects.

  • Are you a collaborative technical leader and project manager?
  • Can you motivate delivery teams and influence stakeholders through a complex technical transformation?
  • Can you coordinate delivery streams across multiple environments and different hosting platforms?

We want an experienced IT/Technical Project Manager to join our Universal Credit and Working Age team.

We're currently working on a transition onto a new technical platform for an existing 'legacy' Service. This transition to a modern platform creates brilliant opportunities for future change to the service.

Our project enables DWP to work with suppliers and external organisations in order to get people, often from specific groups and backgrounds into work. We make sure that our supplier - who might be tasked with getting 50 people into jobs or apprenticeships as part of a DWP or government initiative - gets paid, and that our systems can be flexibly updated and maintained to effectively manage that project, its outputs and the people impacted.

You'll need experience of transitioning 'legacy' services onto modern service platforms. And a big part of this job will be around managing commercial suppliers, contracts and procurements.

Your depth and breadth of experience will help you meet the ongoing technical challenge of maintaining the modern footprint of this service hosted on platforms including Amazon Web Service.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • You are a great communicator and influencer, with experience of working with and influencing internal teams and external suppliers.
  • You have knowledge and experience of project planning; managing and agreeing timelines and deliverable with suppliers, and ensuring targets and deadlines are met.
  • You have knowledge and experience of commercial management and procurement, including contracts and negotiations.
  • You can make effective decisions within the context of the process lifecycle, including the ability to make decision based on the available data, to make recommendations, and to assess risks and opportunities.
  • And if you already have knowledge of DWP's Labour Market Program, in particular contract and employment provision, even better (but not essential).

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join us in our brilliant digital hub in Sheffield.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and many of us are working remotely at the moment due to COVID-19.

In return for your skills, we offer a competitive salary of up to £59,589 a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over 27%, and a generous leave package starting at 26 days.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexible working, flexi hours and flexi days
  • Hybrid working: some time in a hub with the team, some time at home
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving
  • Bring your authentic self to work with 'I Can Be Me in DWP'
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it's even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
  • Sports and social activities
  • Working in an award-winning environment and culture
  • Professional development, coaching, mentoring and career progression opportunities.
