As a Data Engineer in DWP you'll develop and deliver innovative data products which transform how we service data to a variety of consumers.

We're looking for someone who can deliver proactive, innovative and insightful data products and analytics via agile philosophies and cloud technologies that will tangibly improve user outcomes.

You'll be working within an Agile environment alongside one of the Data Science teams within DWP's Data & Analytics directorate, to define and create cloud based technologies, open source tooling and ETL process designs.

We're hiring you for your expertise, and you'll be a respected voice in our community. You will share ideas and best practice across the organisation, leveraging both new and existing technologies and supporting our journey to cloud-native.

You'll be able to tap into expertise and development opportunities to help you grow your skills and career. And you'll have chancel provide leadership and technical guidance to our junior data engineers.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Designs, develops, codes, tests, corrects and documents simple programs or scripts under the direction of others.
  • Understands core technical concepts related to their role and is able to apply them.
  • Aware of the need to translate technical concepts into non-technical language and understands what communication is required to internal and external stakeholders.

Tech Stack:

  • Demonstrable experience with designing, developing and maintaining data solutions on AWS/Azure
  • Demonstrable expertise in modelling concepts (normalised/dimensional/noSql/Big data)
  • Working-level experience in programming Languages - in particular SQL, Python, Shell scripting (BASH)
  • Experience with big data frameworks and associated processing and storage components, e.g. Hadoop Cloudera/AWS EMR, Spark, HIVE, Hue
