We now need a Creative Digital Copywriter to support the transformation and the future growth of the business within the Marketing function, so it can operate as an integrated marketing team that positions Canada life as a market leader in the UK, by creating a single ‘One Canada Life’ brand, delivering a seamless digital experience for our customers and employees, and bring the brand to life.

Job summary

This is for a fixed term contract position is for a Creative Digital Copywriter/Editor to be the engine of content production for the new Canada Life UK website, the length of the contract we would anticipate to be c. 6-9 months long to help us effectively launch the new website.

The focus of content creation will be on Individual products both on & offshore, [to view the product set see the Canada Life Website Retirement, Estate Planning, International, Home Finance, Savings & Investments products] however from time to time there may be a requirement to assist across our other lines of business on an adhoc basis.

This is an exciting time for Canada Life as we are currently in the middle of a rebranding programme, thus the copywriter will be delivering content to the new style and tone standards as defined by the rebrand design project.

The Creative Digital Copywriter will be responsible for the creation of digital copy in partnership with the business leads.  This may well involve taking more technically focused information and whilst keeping its technical integrity, make that copy work in a digital environment and engages its target audiences 

The task will be a mixture of brand new content creation as well as refreshing existing content all within the confines of the new style guide, that is yet to be delivered, anticipated by end Aug/early Sept.  Another key facet to this task is that we want to move away from a static brochure ware site to a more engaging web presence including more diverse content types such as:

  • Video
  • Infographics
  • Podcasts
  • Social Posts

Thus it is imperative that the successful candidate can demonstrate experience of working across the creative studio working alongside other creative discipline leads and that they have extensive experience of producing copy for every type of digital content. 

Digital copy creation and editing skills are a must, and experience of working within a regulated, ideally Financial Services background would be preferable.

This role will require extensive relationship building across various stakeholders across Canada Life’s UK Business thus we are looking for someone who can effectively build alliances and enjoy collaborating with numerous stakeholders, as well as have the skills to sell-in your creative vision and creative approach and to be able to effectively manage feedback.

This person must be a self-starter, who relishes the freedom and the opportunity to help a major UK Financial Services organisation to very tangibly deliver its new brand voice.  We expect the successful applicant to be able to hit the ground running thus interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach are as important as having the required skills.

Proactive and solutions focused, we expect this person to quickly on-board and build effective working relationships with all the lines of business, digital consultants and various Marketing Leads around Canada Life UK.

The role is based in Potters Bar, however some travel to London, Bristol and other UK locations is anticipated.

What you’ll do

  • Take and interpret content briefs working across multiple lines of business working with a variety of stakeholders, from creative colleagues to Business Marketing leads.  You must be familiar with challenging briefs to ensure the requirements are robust and creating clear timelines to help manage expectations and delivery schedules.  All content to be on-brand and on time/within budget if using any external agency support.
  • Take and interpret content, understanding audience insights and requirements for multichannel digital collateral ensuring that all digital content is on-brand and meets stakeholder and key target audience expectations and delivering to agreed timelines.
  • Inputting to delivery schedules and master project plans working with PM Team to help manage delivery and flow-through of creative assets into compliance colleagues etc. for approval.

  • Other ad-hoc copy requests that come from Marketing & Creative Studio and consultants working on Web redesign project from time to time. 

Who you are

  • Excellent knowledge of industry standard software tools such as Microsoft Office and Project Management and traffic management tools such as Smartsheets, MS Project and Jira.
  • Highly skilled and extensive experience of working in an agile development environment partnering with both front & back-end development teams and marketing teams providing impactful but approved on-brand content packages in accordance to project timelines and critical key milestones as agreed by the project teams.
  • Proven experience working either in house or agency within a regulated environment (experience of working within Financial Services and demonstrating working with complex technical copy is essential, (working within Life & Pensions in an intermediated business would be advantageous). 
  • Experience of writing copy for a business audience in a professional marketplace as well as consumer copy outside of the FS sector and with high levels of skill of production of impactful copy across multiple digital channels:

  • Experience of creating impactful content through-the-line as part of an integrated communications packages would be highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience of repurposing content from text based content to more impactful creative assets including infographics and video, as well as working with presentation formats & webinars to create bold, cut through digital communications that delight the target audience.
  • Proven track record of originating considered and reasoned creative concept work and subsequent successful roll out
  • Attention to detail, ability to proof copy with a high level of accuracy and excellent typographical skills.
  • Experience of working on a newly refreshed brand would be highly advantageous, this person will help to define the new digital brand online, thus they must be comfortable working with a degree of uncertainty especially in the beginning as full and comprehensive brand guidelines will not be available immediately, rather this person can work from directional concepts and high-level guidance until the full brand guidelines are defined.
  • Ability to deal with people internally and externally at all levels
  • Experience of working with research outputs and other insights to help craft impactful copy
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, be extremely organised, work well under pressure either independently or as part of a team.
  • Focussed and deadline driven, to ensure the job is completed to the correct specifications
