Overall Job Purpose

To provide live (real time) monitoring service for the Bank's payment and message systems for c.6m payments at a value of £280bn per day to ensure a seamless, error free service to its customers. Focusing on volume, value and pace of payments through the Barclays infrastructure and escalating accordingly to ensure quick resolution thus minimising impact to the customer

Predominantly using the automated monitoring tool Business Bridge, the successful applicant will be identifying potential issues across repair and transient steps using exception based monitoring and escalate accordingly.

Key Accountabilities

  • A GCC Analyst is expected to be the 'eyes and ears' on behalf of the UK, EU and US Operations teams by continually monitoring the payments systems, interfaces and anticipating potential problems by the behaviour of payment flow, repair rate and trend analysis
  • Responsible for opening, closing or extending the Bank's payments systems when required
  • Act as first line support for some systems
  • Perform recovery actions during incidents
  • Escalation for all observations is essential and constant communication with the Senior Team Leader a must

Continuous Improvement

  • Due to the ever changing world of message and payment processing there is opportunity to challenge the monitor existing monitoring model. This aligns with the TRANSFORM program
  • Continuous Improvement could be demonstrated by assisting project teams, team initiatives e.g. Manual to Automated process changes or, updating current processes to fit the evolving world of monitoring
  • Assisting visits to the Global Command Centre and ways to tailor and improve our presentation to suit both internal and external customers

Additional Information

  • The role is based on a rotating shift pattern to support monitoring requirement and includes a shift allowance where applicable
  • Requirement to work some Bank Holidays with pay and time off in lieu (TOIL) provided

  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal dealing with various stakeholders including Senior Management
  • Excellent PC Skills - Microsoft Office
  • Inquisitive mind, constantly challenging the status quo and ability to suggest improvements

Essential Knowledge and Expertise

  • Attention to detail as well as a general awareness of the Bank and its services

  • Knowledge of relevant operational areas which interface with this role


  • Previous payments processing knowledge
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to Global Payments services e.g. Money Laundering Act, Sanctions, FCA rules, US rules and regulation
  • Understanding of risk awareness and records management procedure
