About this role

BlackRock has made sustainability its standard and investments in ESG data and technology are a key component of this effort. For this purpose, the ETF and Index Investments division is looking to appoint a Associate within the EMEA Sustainable Data, Index Research, and Innovation team, reporting to the iShares Head of Sustainable Data. The team focuses on developing proprietary intellectual property, building innovative Sustainable product offerings, particularly focused on institutional mandates, and furthering the research capabilities across the index space.

This important role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to be involved in shaping and evolving sustainability data with many different teams across the organization (investment research, sales, marketing, risk management, fund platform, index providers, investment strategy, ESG, Factors and Thematic teams, amongst others).

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Support the index research agenda on sustainable benchmarks in conjunction with team lead
  • Be a key contributor to buildout index research analytics and testing infrastructure (in conjunction with PAG and BIS)
  • Partner with Engine and Product team initiatives globally on sustainable index methodology to ensure global coordination, commercial effective and product governance
  • Conduct research and due diligence of potential new data and index sources
  • Communicate and deliver presentations to stakeholders across the firm on data, index research and innovation strategy
  • Support the development of thought leadership content and supporting evidence/research
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Product Strategy, Innovation, Portfolio Consulting, Risk Management, Product Engineering and Legal teams (to name a few)
  • Support discussions on additional data sources from index providers to be used by BlackRock and the Aladdin Community
  • Analyse industry trends across data, index research and innovation


Skills:
  • Attention to detail and ability to pick up & digest new information quickly
  • Good communication skills, including written and presentation skills
  • Highly organised and able to adhere to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and manage a variety of stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and capability to understand client needs and ways to solve them
  • Proven track record operating in a fast-paced environment
  • Sense of initiative and enthusiasm to join the fastest growing segment of the BlackRock's business
  • Self-motivated and dedication to excellence


Qualifications:
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline is strongly preferred
  • Strong research background and academic credentials
  • Basic programming skills (Python, R)
  • Knowledge of index construction methodologies and terminology
  • Good knowledge of fixed income would be preferred
  • Working knowledge of investment risk management tools is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of sustainable investment and ESG data (MSCI/Sustainalytics as a minimum) is preferred
