Senior Software Engineer/SRE - Developer Experience
Our developer experience team provides critical developer services to Bloomberg's engineering force, such as source control management, allowing users to centrally manage, discover and collaborate on their code; and artifact repository hosting, where we are responsible for how the firm ingests and manages third party software, along with how development artifacts are used internally.

You will be responsible for managing our critical developer services at scale, which will involve using configuration management to perform changes and build services; automate common and repetitive tasks; build tooling and integrations to complement vendor products; and ensure production visibility through telemetry, alerting and capacity management.

In our team, you can expect to help us with:
  • Enhancing production visibility through alarming and telemetry
  • Speeding up the service for global users with geographical routing, performance tuning and caching
  • Creating self-service tooling for users to manage their content
  • Scaling our production container and package registries to accommodate global functionality and performance demands

We'll trust you to:
  • Identify and proactively manage risks to prevent service problems
  • Define how Bloomberg's engineers should consume 3rd party code across the organisation and languages
  • Take ownership of projects and see delivery through to production
  • Apply an evidence-based approach to problem solving
  • Engineer techniques and solutions that apply at scale
  • Participate in our intercontinental on-call schedule to handle service problems when they do occur

You'll need to have:
  • Experience in Python and other scripting languages
  • Working knowledge of Linux and common command-line tools
  • Knowledge of all parts of the SDLC
  • A proactive approach to managing services
  • A drive to partner and collaborate with users and team members alike

We'd love to see:
  • Prior work with configuration management and provisioning tools, such as Ansible
  • Experience with managing performance and capacity of systems at scale
  • A history working with software vendors
  • A passion for forward-thinking problem solving
  • Prior experience with code and artifact hosting solutions
