Position Description

The Trade Surveillance group implements complex surveillance models and related investigative infrastructure and tooling that focus on monitoring the trading practices of the Firm?s front office and electronic businesses across all asset classes. A senior developer in this space will work closely with business analysts, other developers and business unit partners locally and globally to drive forward the business agenda through solid design and execution.


  • Partner with internal clients, business analysts and the rest of the team to establish/agree on requirements and systems functionality, delivering value incrementally through pragmatic Agile practices

  • Adopt adequate Test/Behaviour Driven Development where it makes sense for the projects outcomes

  • Design and implement relevant surveillance models or analysis tools, leveraging big data platforms

  • Deploy, maintain and performance tune relevant surveillance models, and take accountability for production performance, in partnership with QA and

  • Production Management teams to maximize efficiency, stability and ultimately business value.

Skills Required

  • Strong proficiency with Core Java

  • High quality software architecture and design methodologies and patterns

  • Database experience preferably with DB2, Sybase, or Oracle

  • Complete SDLC process and Agile methodology (Scrum)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional approach

Other Skills Desired

  • Previous experience in trade surveillance, electronic trading or working with data from the order, quote, trade, risk transaction lifecycles within

  • Equity or Fixed Income.

  • Basics of Scala on Spark

  • Knowledge on Hadoop Technologies

  • XML-based technologies

  • Unix OS, Scripting, Python or Perl Experience in development on other application types (Web applications, batch, or streaming)
