We examine how policy can influence carbon prices and the uptake of electric vehicles, how the weather shapes natural gas storage numbers, and much more besides. We develop in-depth research by combining our extensive data models with our network of high-level industry contacts and our forward-looking views on all major market trends. We are seeking an experienced geopolitical analyst to enhance our coverage of the global energy markets with a particular focus on oil and gas. A successful candidate would likely have good knowledge of the global geopolitical and policy climate, especially in the Middle East, FSU and South America.

The successful candidate will play an active role in the full cycle of research, from working with data and carrying out detailed analysis, to writing compelling reports and presenting view to clients and media. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and contributing to many of our publications, from regular reports and market alerts to in-depth reports on key themes, as well as helping to shape our house views.

Our clients value our views and insights, so you will be helping to shape forward-looking views and not just conducting historical analysis. You will need to maintain both short- and long-term outlooks for key countries, regions and structural trends. You will work with several senior colleagues to track OPEC developments and production trends. You also need to be quickly research and provide insights on new developments that emerge outside of your usual areas of focus. This will all involve carrying out comprehensive analysis of relevant information, working with key regional contacts to gain on the ground views and rapidly interpreting the significance for our views and our clients.

You will already have a record of accomplishment in accurately portraying global geopolitical views in written publications. You should also have a solid understanding of the energy sector and the relationship between geopolitics and energy fundamentals. You will be expected to consistently produce work at a high enough standard to send out to our demanding client base. We are meticulous about maintaining a high standard of accuracy across all of our services.

  • Experience of analysing geopolitical developments related to the global energy markets, in particular oil and gas.
  • An understanding of the key regions for energy geopolitics i.e. the Middle East, FSU, LATAM and Africa.
  • Ability to produce well-structured reports and summaries that stimulate interest as well as communicating key information effectively.
  • Attention to detail is a prerequisite for this role in both handling data and written English.
  • Takes time to learn the viewpoints and activities of other research teams in order to maintain the house view.
  • A proven track record in publishing and presenting geopolitical analysis, preferably for the energy sector.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones, to deliver timely analysis will be critical.
  • Excellent Excel and modelling skills.
  • Written and spoken Arabic would be advantageous
