Nomura are currently seeking to recruit an Associate level credit officer to join the EMEA corporate credit team. The role would be primarily focused on supporting Nomura's Investment Banking Leveraged Finance franchise in EMEA.

Department overview:

Credit Risk Management EMEA consists of around 20 London-based analysts who work in one of four areas: Financial Institutions, Sovereigns and related entities, Hedge Funds and Corporates. The department is responsible for analysing counterparties, assigning ratings, opining on trade structures and mitigating features, and analysing transactions. We work closely with colleagues in the front office, other areas of risk and in other regions.

Role description:

  • We are currently seeking to recruit an Associate level credit officer to join the EMEA corporate credit team. The role would be primarily focused on supporting Nomura's Investment Banking Leveraged Finance franchise in EMEA.
  • Under the guidance of a senior credit officer, the Associate would be responsible for due diligence process and assessment of underwriting risk.
  • The candidate must have years of experience in the area of leveraged finance and solid skills in corporate finance and fundamental analysis.
  • This role would sit in the EMEA Corporate Credit Team which is responsible for approving leveraged finance transactions, derivatives trades and structured credit transactions.
  • Primary responsibilities for this role would be to:
    • Conduct full credit due diligence on new transactions including business review, financial analysis and cash flow modelling
    • Site and companies visits and direct interaction with clients
    • Evaluate transactions structure, legal documentation and covenants
    • Preparing rating proposal and monitoring of a loan portfolio
    • Briefing to senior management and liaising with clients when required
    • Approval of derivatives trades within clients' portfolio
  • The candidate would also be involved in the loan portfolio management and the production and presentation of ad hoc corporate and leveraged finance market analysis.
  • In addition, depending on experience, the candidate would have the opportunity to broaden the scope of its responsibilities by exerting credit approval authority in other products areas including derivatives, structured finance and emerging-markets lending.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision on leveraged finance due diligence
  • Flexibility in being able to work on various transactions at the same time and to meet deadlines
  • Value added interface with business, clients and senior management

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • Credit analysis experience, with a focus on leveraged finance.
  • Previous experience as a credit analyst, in a similar credit role, rating agency, execution team or credit fund will be considered
  • Need to be able to form its own views and be at ease in presenting to senior management and colleagues
  • Experience in cash flow and financial modelling
  • Understanding of capital structures and debt instruments (loans/high yield)
  • Financial/business qualification such as CFA/Master's degree/MBA is an advantageDesirable
  • Fluency in 1 or 2 European languages would be highly desirable
