Jane's Terrorism and Insurance Centre (JTIC) Senior Analyst
We are seeking a senior analyst to join the Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Centre (JTIC) team in IHS Markit's Country Risk department, based in London. JTIC researches and gathers data on terrorism, insurgency, and political violence worldwide in order to interpret and assess current threat levels and patterns and forecast how these are likely to evolve in future. As a senior analyst, you will play a key role in formulating and communicating JTIC data, risk assessments and forecasts to a range of global clients, including but not limited to government and national security agencies to multinational corporations, who rely on JTIC to help them make informed and effective policy and business decisions.

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:
  • Producing written forecasts, news, analysis, and thought leadership on topics of terrorism, insurgency, and political violence worldwide
  • Communicating forecasts and analysis to JTIC current and prospective clients, internal colleagues, and the media through oral presentations, briefings, conferences, and events as appropriate
  • Updating and handling data sets, and drawing on existing data, to support forecast and analysis of relevant regions, countries, conflicts, or non-state armed groups
  • Supporting the production and publication of the full range of JTIC products, from written reports and briefings, presentations, and multimedia outputs
  • Working within a team of JTIC analysts, inputting specialist views as appropriate, and working to support and promote the development of more junior JTIC colleagues
  • Commissioning and editing analytical pieces and other contracted work from JTIC's range of 'on the ground' analysts and subject matter experts
  • Overseeing the review and update of existing JTIC group profiles, and researching and writing new profiles as required
  • Supporting product and business development activities, and interacting with existing or prospective clients as required

Required Experience:
  • Master's degree in a field that demonstrates deep knowledge of terrorism, insurgency, and/or political violence, or of the socio-economic, cultural, and political factors that give rise to these
  • At least five years of directly-related experience, typically acquired by working in industry, government, research institutes/think tanks, consulting, or similar fields providing related background and experience
  • A deep interest and understanding of the history, evolution, and current dynamics within terrorism, insurgency, or political violence

Preferred Experience:
  • Regional specialism welcomed but not mandatory, as candidate will be expected to maintain a global remit

Required Skills:
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to work both quantitatively and qualitatively, demonstrating an objective and impartial approach
  • Effective communication in English, both written and spoken, with demonstrated presentation ability
  • Highly effective organisational and prioritisation skills, including the ability to stay on task and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment, adapting effectively to change
  • Close attention to detail
  • Ability to work with and quickly adapt to new analytical tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to collaborate with, learn from, and/or mentor other team members
  • Proficiency with MS applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Skills:
  • Fluency in other languages, particularly Arabic, French, Russian, or languages of other regions and countries affected by terrorism, insurgency, or political violence
  • Experience and innovation with databases and data visualisation tools, such as Tableau
