UK Government Investments Head of Banking and Capital Markets for Financial Institutions Group
UKGI is the government’s centre of expertise on corporate finance and corporate governance, working on some of its most critical and complex commercial tasks. As Head of Banking Capital Markets you will have a unique, high-profile role at the heart of the UK banking industry.
From 31 March, UK Government Investments will be responsible for managing the Government’s majority shareholding in The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (RBS) and 100 per cent shareholding and loans in UK Asset Resolution Ltd (UKAR) and its subsidiaries. UKGI is now seeking an individual to lead its banking related corporate finance and capital markets work.
About the role
To lead the banking related corporate finance and capital markets advisory work with respect to UKAR and RBS. The post holder will report to Head of the Financial Institutions Group.
The Head of Banking & Capital Markets will:
Work with the Head of the Financial Institutions Group and other stakeholders to design and then execute a plan to dispose of the government’s investments in an active and orderly way over time with the objective of maximising sustainable value for the taxpayer;
Monitor and review the strategy of the portfolio companies, including liaising with the management team and board of the investee companies as required;
Produce and provide advice to Treasury officials and ministers within government on a range of matters for the portfolio companies, including but not limited to stewardship and valuation.
The role may include being a member or an observer on the board of UK Asset Resolution.
The successful candidate will have:
Exceptional financial acumen and extensive financial services experience including knowledge and experience of working in the UK and European banking sector and understanding the strategic issues it faces;
The presence, gravitas and credibility to maintain the highest professional standards in their engagement with senior stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds including the investee companies, a range of advisors, officials, ministers and the investor community; and
Excellent project management, negotiation and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of leading complex corporate finance and capital markets transactions (including securitisations) in the banking sector.
