About this Role

The Financial Markets Advisory (FMA) business delivers a range of advisory services including sustainability, capital markets, portfolio construction and data & analytics solutions to official sector and financial institution clients globally, including banks and insurance companies. We support our clients on their most critical and complex financial issues - from managing the low carbon transition of the economy and financial sector, to unwinding portfolios of assets, to crafting and executing institutional programmes to support the economy for example through bond purchase programmes or infrastructure investments.

We leverage the firm's sophisticated sustainability, capital markets, data & analytics, and technology capabilities to deliver impact-oriented advisory services.

We are looking to recruit Vice President(s)/Associate(s) focusing on Sustainability Analytics to join the team based in London.

Key responsibilities

This role will be responsible for helping drive and support Sustainability Analytics across Financial Services industry and Official Sector institutions, as well as leading and/or participating in the execution of sustainability analytics across client engagements. The role also entails regular cross-divisional collaboration on sustainability topics with other BlackRock divisions.

BlackRock's sustainability analytics efforts currently focus on transition and physical risk measurement, net zero analytics, and ESG scoring. This is supported by the sustainability modelling and analytics suite available within Aladdin, as well as broader BlackRock sustainability capabilities.

Specifically, the candidate will be expected to:

  • Enforce BlackRock's fiduciary culture of providing the highest quality service and work product to our clients

  • Participate in the development of our Sustainability and Climate product offerings in line with evolving client needs

  • Actively contribute to business development and relationship management, working alongside the broader team to conceive, develop, and market innovative solutions for new and existing clients

  • As an Associate in the team you are expected to:

    • Take on responsibility over a part of project activities/ workstreams, independently or with support of junior team members

    • Support project managers in day-to-day activities, including internal and external stakeholder management

  • As a Vice President in the team you are expected to:

    • Direct and manage large, multi-disciplinary project teams incorporating teams of subject matter experts, data and analytical experts, researchers, and generalists

    • Contribute to client outreach on sustainability analytics and modelling topics

    • Lead internal / client project design and planning (internal and client), defining deliverable structure / content, and developing timelines

    • Act as a mentor and coach to junior staff, providing guidance on project work


Key skills and qualifications

The candidate will possess demonstrated analytics and product development capabilities, and a track record of accomplishments in analytics development and deployment for the financial sector.

Key qualifications for candidates interested in joining FMA include:

  • 3+ years of experience (Vice President: 5+ years) in financial services, consulting, research, or other relevant fields, with a track record of outstanding achievements

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and/or drive the work of teams in the development and execution of projects related to analytics and models, such as transition risk or net zero models

  • Understanding of the rapidly evolving sustainability and climate risk analytics landscape, incl. scenarios, measurement techniques, their application to asset portfolios, and client demand drivers (e.g., net zero commitments, regulatory stress testing)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear messages and acumen with clients and internal partners

  • Good Excel skills; Python skills a plus

  • Experience using and/or developing analytical systems / tools / infrastructure, a plus

  • Undergraduate and/or advanced degree from a top academic program focused on finance / capital markets, engineering, environmental, or related fields
