Discretionary Trader - London or New York

My client is a global investment management firm with a highly technology- and data-driven approach to investing. The firm runs a diversified portfolio of systematic and quantitative strategies across global markets, complemented by discretionary trading in areas where human judgement can add value.

With proprietary trading platforms, research systems, and large-scale computing infrastructure, the firm combines quantitative research, technology, and experienced investment judgement within a globally integrated and collaborative environment.

They are now looking to hire recent and upcoming graduates from top universities to join their Discretionary Trading team.

As a Junior Discretionary Trader, you will work closely with senior traders and quantitative researchers, gaining hands-on exposure to the full trading process - from evaluating opportunities and managing risk through to hedging and execution.

You will have the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of global markets across Equities, Commodities, Rates/FX, Credit, and Volatility, while building expertise in research, portfolio construction, risk management, and trade execution.

Responsibilities

• Support senior traders in identifying, evaluating, and managing trading opportunities across global markets
• Monitor portfolios and produce P&L, exposure, and risk reporting
• Assist with hedging and trade execution, including complex, bespoke, or illiquid transactions
• Work closely with quantitative researchers to incorporate data, analytics, and systematic insights into trading decisions
• Conduct market and trade analysis to support portfolio management and investment decisions
• Develop a deep understanding of market dynamics, risk, and portfolio construction
• Contribute to improving trading processes, tools, and decision-making frameworks
