The London Fire Brigade is recruiting a Deputy Head of Finance (DHoF). Reporting to the Head of Finance you will be responsible for the financial accounting services of one of the world's largest fire and rescue services. These services will include preparation of the accounts, accounts payable and receivable, treasury management, insurance, tax, and payroll.
A key responsibility of the DHoF will be the preparation of the annual statement of accounts, leading all elements relating to this, including accounts guidance and timetable, the preparation of the statement itself with all accounting entries and notes, and the audit process including all working papers and resolving audit queries.
The Brigade is also about to commence a project to review its finance, HR and payroll systems. The DHoF will play a key role in the project to ensure any new system is delivered to plan and meets the organisation's needs, both today and into the future.
In addition to being a fully qualified accountant, you will be an experienced senior finance manager, with a range of experience that should include working in a large organisation, within the public sector. This should include experience of leading the preparation of the annual accounts, and ideally experience of working on the implementation of a new, or significant development of an existing, finance system.
Crucially you will understand the challenges faced in leading and managing a finance function in a time of significant change and with a continuing challenging financial position. To be able to meet these challenges you will have proven commercial awareness, leadership and analytical skills.
