POSITION

In support of the continued growth of our business in EMEA, we are currently seeking assistance from a high calibre Lawyer to join our Legal team in London as Counsel. This individual will play an important role providing legal support to our client facing activities in EMEA.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include:
  • Providing legal support for Wellington Management's EMEA separate account clients and associated regulated entities, including:
  • Providing general counsel and advice on regulatory, fiduciary, risk and other issues related to the management and servicing of separate account clients;
  • Providing general counsel and advice in relation to selling and marketing activities (including advice on regulated activities and licensing requirements as we continue to expand in the EU post Brexit);
  • Working with the EMEA Compliance team to update process, documentation and training on client classification, suitability assessments and provision of advice;
  • Assisting with complex issues arising on Investment Management Agreements and client onboarding and helping to establish controls and processes where required; and
  • Providing corporate governance support.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate is likely to have:
  • 8+ years PQE, gained at a city law firm or in-house;
  • Broad-based asset management expertise, ideally with experience of advising on licensing and sales and marketing activities within the EU;
  • Good business judgement, and strong counselling skills;
  • A pragmatic and risk aware approach to practising law, with ability to prioritise;
  • The ability to represent the firm appropriately with external clients;
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively distill and communicate complex issues in a dynamic environment;
  • The character and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Language skills would be a positive but is not a requirement.
