This is a first-time appointment to take over the financial and operational matters from the partners, in order to allow them to focus their energy on sourcing investments, fundraising and other commercial responsibilities. The role has oversight across all aspects of finance and operations for the firm and its funds. In some respects, the opportunity is very much a blank canvas as you will be responsible for designing and implementing the financial accounting and reporting processes and controls for the firm. Additionally, you'll need to appoint and co-ordinate with various advisors, such as the fund administrators, auditors, tax advisors et al. Once the finance and support function is up and running you'll be able to take the role in fundamentally one of two directions. Ideally, the successful will be able to partner with the founders, add meaning and insight to the financials, provide support to investee companies, assist with fund/investment structuring and support the founders with their fundraising initiatives. In short, there is a preference for someone who can grow into a commercial CFO capacity however the role may also suit someone who would prefer to take on a wider operational support role. In this format, the appointee would also oversee aspects such as HR, IT, payroll, compliance and the general back-office operations. It will come down to the appointee to shape the direction the role will take.
