CEF Originator - Structured Trade Finance

The Commodity Enhanced Finance (CEF) Originator Role within the European Gas & Power (EGP) trading team is a market facing and value generating front office position as the bench looks to enhance the returns on the back of existing EGP commodity flow.

This will be an important role and component of the continued diversification of the EGP business and will report to the CEF Book Lead.  The role will be accountable for generating value across the operating platform and within the established control framework.  This role will have a regional market scope with clear pnl and delivery expectations across targeted performance elements.


1.Independently develops and maintains relationships with counterparties (banks) in regional target markets,
2.Originates and distributes structured trade finance instruments as a member of the CEF desk,
3.Negotiates transaction documentation with each counterparty bank ensuring results are in line with EGP internal (legal, credit, compliance, risk and tax) standards,
4.Negotiates pricing and transacts with counterparties within established framework while ensuring each set of documents is valid and up to date per agreed BP standards,
5.Follows and communicates with regards to market trends (investment outlook, market developments, political and commercial risk profile, pricing and credit appetite) on both borrower and investor bank segments,
6.Identifies target markets and counterparties for CEF trading and agrees a yearly business plan with CEF Book Lead,
7.With assistance of BP Legal, drives standard transaction documentation (Global Templates) with the banks. Monitors the negotiation of the appropriate template with each new counterparty bank to understand any variations and risks.
8.Actively collaborates and works with BP Credit around credit risk and limits required to conduct CEF business,
9.Ensures that the dialogue with banks on the CEF activity is coordinated with BP’s other bank and counterparty relationship management.
10. Ensures full compliance with CEF framework and operating procedures at all times (e.g. DoA’s, transaction confirmations, documentation, credit limits, etc).
11. Maintains high ethical standards and complying with all market rules and regulations

Essential Criteria:

•Proven track record in Structured Trade Finance or Loan distribution in a front office role, ideally in the Commodity Enhanced Finance / Structured LC space.
•An extensive track record of realizing strong and sustainable commercial results within a distribution / origination environment.
•Solid knowledge and understanding of trade finance and its instruments, in particular Letters of Credit.
•Good overall knowledge and understanding of commodity markets.
•Demonstrated commitment to control and compliance.
•Sound one team behaviours with the ability to receive and provide respectful challenge.
•Good industry reputation with established relationships across the emerging bank and confirming bank segments.
•Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to work within a very deadline orientated environment with competing priorities and complexities.
