This role will be part of a Global team, reporting to the Chief Controls Officer, that provides risk and control direction and support to the Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) and Financial Crime Risk Chief Operating Office (FCR COO) functions globally, in order to obtain reasonable assurance that the business is operating in line with the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF).

Business Risk & Control Management (BRCM) roles act as a 1LOD and work closely with Risk Owners and Control Owners to ensure the execution of operational risk management activities as defined by the ORMF within Global FCC and FCR COO. They provide expert operational risk advice and input, and control monitoring for Global FCC and FCR COO.

The Global FCC Risk & Control Manager will carry out activities that will include most of the following:

  • Identify risks applicable to and owned by the function(s);
  • Conduct risk and control assessments (RCAs) of those risks and maintain up-to-date RCAs in Helios;
  • Conduct periodic testing of relevant controls linked to the risks owned by the function(s) as part of RCA testing;
  • Record and maintain issues in Helios related to the performance of controls owned by the Global FCC and FCR COO functions;
  • Review results of the periodic testing of controls reported by the regional/country BRCMs, which relate to Global FCC and FCR COO functions;
  • Support the Chief Control Officer on ORTP implementation matters.
  • Act as escalation point for regions and countries for complex issues in the area of BRCM and ORTP
  • Understand functional risks in own functional area and ensure team's adherence to policies.

To be successful in the role, it is likely that you will meet the following requirements:

  • An experienced SME in one or more operational risk disciplines
  • Experience working in a Financial Crime Department
  • Strong matrix management ability and ability to influence senior management.
  • Strong knowledge of an investment bank business activities and processes.
  • Broad knowledge of the external environment (regulatory, legislation, HSBC's competitors).
  • Experience of collaborating with Risk, Compliance, Legal and Audit functions.
  • High level of drive and motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues concisely.
  • Ability to think 'beyond the obvious' and challenge the status quo to propose novel solutions.
