Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock's EMEA Retail business employs over 200 people with over $200bn assets under management. EMEA Retail is primarily a wholesale business providing cross-border solutions to intermediaries who serve the full spectrum of privately-owned wealth across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our clients are predominantly global and multi-national banks, wealth managers and insurers focused on delivering discretionary investment management and financial advisory services to private investors.

EMEA Retail's product proposition comprises a broad range of both actively managed and index pooled investment vehicles. The BlackRock Global Funds (BGF) range which is registered and distributed in over 22 countries across the EMEA region as our flagship offering, designed to meet the needs of a $2.37 trillion cross-border retail investment market. A UK-domiciled Authorized Unit Trust range (BFM) is also distributed in the UK to serve the needs of our domestic UK client base. In addition to its core mutual fund business, EMEA Retail aims to deliver bespoke, outcome-oriented investment portfolios to strategic partners across the region, often acting as an outsourced portfolio manager on behalf of our largest distributors.

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock's EMEA iSW business is looking for an individual to be responsible for the Data & Analytics in the Wealth Product Group.

Primary responsibility of the role will be to provide data and analytical insights to the Wealth Product Group in order to define/drive sales and retention for the iSW business across the region. There will be a requirement to work in strong partnership with the investment teams, global product group, iSW sales, global marketing and other key stakeholders.  The successful candidate will possess a deep knowledge of the EMEA cross border fund marketplace, investment management, capital markets, sustainable investing and active strategies. The key responsibilities of the role include ownership of the competitor analysis, performance and pricing to help define commercialization and innovation of products as well increasing alignment of our index/active proposition.  In addition, the candidate must have strong communication skills and the ability to form trusted relationships and work across the organization to build consensus for tactical and strategic sales initiatives.

The insights from this role are a key input in defining what EMEA iSW will be focusing on to optimise sales and product development. The role plays an important part in the positioning of the investment platforms and products by articulating competitive advantages versus peers to ensure consistent sales narrative.  Product messaging is created through quantitative proof points and pricing analysis to position our range in the context of client portfolios.  Competitor analysis and bespoke peer group tracking by asset class and sector is undertaken to assess our relative performance and flow dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the data & analytics in the Wealth Product Group team, leveraging MorningStar Direct and other internal analytics tools

  • Driving the insights and the analytical process with regards to updating the list of Focus, Tactical & Defence funds for the client business

  • Maintaining and enhancing the team daily reports, such as competitor performance and flow dashboards

  • Updating and leveraging the output of Morningstar FoF data in order to create competitor opportunities

  • Working with the Sales and Investment teams to create bespoke competitor analysis order to maximize client engagements across EMEA.

  • Partnering with different parts of the organization to assess BlackRock competitiveness on different aspects (e.g. pricing)

  • Working individually or with investment teams to assist fund research analysts with their requests for rating agency meetings.

  • Manage the process to ensure our focus funds are awarded ratings by identify which fund research firm is the most suitable for each fund

  • Working closely with sales in EMEA to enhance our partnerships with fund research groups, working towards obtaining new ratings and ensuring coordination in our interaction with these firms

  • Working with sales teams to ensure our rated funds feature on model portfolios.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of investment databases, including Morningstar and Bloomberg, knowledge of Aladdin would also be a plus

  • Understanding of performance attribution, market factors and drivers of returns across mutual funds and asset classes

  • Analytical approach to data insights and strong capital market knowledge

  • Proven financial services experience, preferably with a focus on mutual fund strategies

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines

  • Ability to execute across teams and drive projects with input and feedback from key stakeholders

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to deliver pertinent facts in a concise fashion

  • Preference for multi-lingual candidate (e.g. German, French, Spanish or Italian as second language)

Knowledge/Experience:

  • They will have a solid understanding of the asset management industry, in particular the wealth segment, as well as of investment products

  • The candidate should have a background in working with clients either through sales or product strategy 

  • Proven track record in stakeholder and project management

  • Demonstrate the experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience in PowerPoint, competitor analytics and an advanced user of Excel in particular preparing sales and strategy presentations
