Associate Director, Finance - Transaction Advisory Service

The Financial Management Group provides financial, tax and treasury services to all areas of Macquarie. The group is focused on providing strategic analysis and advice to Macquarie's businesses and senior management, managing Macquarie's funding, liquidity and capital position, ensuring Macquarie continues to meet regulatory and compliance obligations and managing Macquarie's corporate communications and investor relations.
The Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) team is a global advisory function providing transaction support for acquisitions, disposals and restructures across Macquarie’s businesses and is responsible for partnering with deal teams to advise on the financial implications of a transaction, with a primary focus on the accounting considerations, and to make recommendations for the approval of new transactions. We coordinate and connect the dots across accounting, funding, economic capital and tax streams for a transaction, critically assess transaction returns including commercial merits and risks and coordinate and review of financial due diligence and accounting treatment on proposed transactions, including review of financial modelling.
About the role
This position will require close interaction and engagement with key internal stakeholder and clients groups, such as deal teams, Business unit CFOs and the Group Financial Controller. You will also be required to liaise with other support areas including Group Finance, Business Unit Finance, Tax, Treasury Company Secretarial, Settlements, Compliance and Risk Management. In addition, you will also be required to liaise with external auditors as part of the Macquarie Group audit.
You will be expected to act as the key lead to the deal teams with respect to advising on new transactions, including analysis of key accounting considerations, making recommendations for the approval of new transactions (including assessment of risk/return profile). You will review Financial Control due diligence reports, co-ordinate with other parts of Finance Management Group (FMG) and Risk Management Group (RMG) to understand overall implications of new transactions, provide inputs for monthly management reporting including analysis of balance sheet and commentary by transaction and provide other ad hoc analysis, reporting and transaction analysis. You will required to answer queries from Deal Management, global Finance teams and central Finance areas and be responsible for direct management of team members.
You will have strong commercial acumen with transaction experience in a chartered or commercial environment with an interest in developing knowledge across Macquarie. You will have the ability to exercise initiative and follow through on issues without supervision and have experience in managing direct reports and small teams. You will have the ability to tailor verbal, listening and written communication skills to deal with staff across all levels and offshore office staff, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to establish strong working relationships with key members of the business and other areas of the group. You have strong planning and orgnaising skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing deadlines while managing and mentoring junior team members.
To be considered for this role you will have strong qualifications in Business, Commerce or Finance and hold Chartered Accountant qualification (or equivalent). You will have at least 7 years post qualification experience , with at least some of this gained in Chartered status. You will have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic and committed to the role, enjoy problem solving and new challenges and show strong attention to detail and a desire to follow tasks through to completion. You will be resilient and enjoy working in a team environment.
