The aim of the ICG Internship programme is to provide valuable work experience for bright and capable graduates in a busy, fast-paced environment. It is targeted at those who may have little to no relevant work experience (3 months or less) to help get them ready to move into permanent employment.

We are recruiting 10 Interns to join ICG in January 2019 for 12 months.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The internships are in various areas of the business:

Alternative Credit

The Intern will become a key member of the Alternative Credit team, based within the larger Credit Fund Management team.  The alternative credit team is responsible for investing in structured credit, asset backed securities and related markets. The Intern will develop their understanding of the financial markets, with a particular understanding of the fixed income capital markets and structured credit investments.

The Intern will gain practical work experience through assisting the team with daily tasks including:

  • Organising, analysing and manipulating data for investment analysis purposes;
  • Observing and interpreting market trading activity;
  • Documenting analysis in documents and spreadsheets;
  • Improving efficiency of the investment process by automating certain tasks;
  • Other ad hoc projects

Credit Fund Management - Credit Analysis

The Intern will become a key member of the CFM Liquid Products Investment team with a primary focus on providing trading and analytical support in relation to the monitoring and analysis of the portfolio of over 200 individual credit investments. Globally the CFM business manages €8.3bn of assets focusing on liquid sub-investment grade credit – primarily loans and high yield bonds.

They will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the life cycle of individual deals alongside experienced credit analysts, including from deal launch, through the investment process, funding and subsequent monitoring and trading with a focus on the sub-investment grade loan and bond markets.

The Intern will gain practical work experience through assisting the team with daily tasks including:

  • Improving efficiency of the investment and trading process by undertaking or automating certain tasks;
  • Organising, analysing and manipulating data for portfolio and credit analysis purposes, and documenting that analysis;
  • Working with the Head of Credit Research on implementation and further evolution of the Responsible Investing framework within CFM;
  • Other ad hoc projects.

Equity and Mezzanine – UK Team

The Intern will become a member of the Investment team with a primary focus on providing analytical support in relation to new investment opportunities and the existing investment portfolio.

The Intern will gain practical work experience through assisting the team with daily tasks including:

  • Assisting with the maintenance of the new investment pipeline database as well as the analysis of new investment pipeline opportunities, particularly in relation to historical performance, services offered and market research;
  • Contributing to the preparation of quarterly papers to the credit committee regarding portfolio performance and investment activity;
  • Helping to improve the efficiency of the portfolio monitoring process by streamlining and automating certain tasks; and
  • Providing analytical input into a variety of ad hoc projects.

Compliance

The Intern will become a key member of the Risk team that covers Compliance, Legal, Risk and Internal Audit. ICG’s combined Risk function has responsibility for supporting the Board in delivering on its responsibility for risk management across the entire spectrum of ICG’S activities. Specifically,  the team provides advice, support and independent challenge to help ICG ensure it manages its key risks, remains compliant with relevant laws and regulation and has effective internal controls in place. 

The internship is expected to provide, but is not limited to:

  • A broad understanding of the alternative asset management industry;
  • An appreciation of the architecture of a control environment in a regulated industry;
  • Strong foundation and understanding of the current /future regulatory/legislative environment within the Financial Services Industry;
  • An understanding of the corporate legal function within a public company;
  • Experience of information flow and management information; and
  • A good understanding of risk management and internal control.

Real Estate

The Intern will become a key member of the Portfolio Monitoring Team of ICG-Longbow. ICG-Longbow has grown from £50m to c.£3.5bn of assets under management in the past 7 years. 

The Intern will gain practical work experience through assisting the team with daily tasks including:

  • Organising, analysing and manipulating data for investment monitoring purposes
  • Researching data to enable more accurate / better considered evaluation of investment performance and risk
  • Reviewing and analysing borrower requests in relation to property management (e.g. lease renewals, capital expenditure) and variation to loan terms.
  • Preparation of materials and reports for ICG-Longbow’s Asset Management Committee and Investors
  • Attending borrower meetings and producing action plans / meeting notes

Client Relations

The Intern will become a key member of the Marketing and Client Relations (MCR) team. The MCR team has responsibility for raising new ICG funds and maintaining relationships with existing investors.  The Intern will support the Client Relations team in developing Fund marketing materials and providing quantitative and qualitative analysis for investors.

The internship is expected to provide, but is not limited to:

  • Assisting in the preparation of marketing materials and presentations for new and existing funds based on analysis performed and with the input of other team members
  • Providing analysis in response to specific market and performance queries from potential and existing investors
  • Creating analysis of current ICG funds’ performance, including comparison with market benchmarks, and communication of findings both orally and in written marketing materials
  • Regular interaction with members of the MCR, investment and administration teams, to ensure effective sharing of information between team

IT Development

The Intern will play a full part in the development team as an application programmer, helping to design and build line-of-business applications to help the business grow and manage its investment assets.

ICG buys, rents systems from 3rd parties, but also write bespoke software and applications, data-integration and report-writing tools that automate specific bespoke business processes.  The internship would involve working on one or more of these systems as part of a wider team and they should expect their designs, solutions and code to be deployed to our production systems for real-world use within weeks of joining the team.

Human Resources

The intern will become a member of the HR team, who’s primary objective at ICG is to provide full global support to all of our international offices and to assist the business to achieve its growth targets through the recruitment, development and retention of talent. The HR strategy is to develop robust, scalable processes and systems that support efficient and effective business processes and decision making.

The role will support the Generalist team in the areas of Recruitment, Learning & Development and Project work. They will also support the Reward team on the Compensation round and other Reward/Benefits projects.

The candidate can learn the technical aspects of the different areas of HR but will need to have strong communication and analytical skills to be able to work constructively and collaboratively with all areas of the business.

Amongst other things, the internship is expected to provide the successful candidate with:

  • A broad understanding of the alternative asset management industry;
  • An understanding of the HR function within a public company;
  • An understanding of general HR & Reward processes and practices;
  • Experience of information flow and management information; and
  • HR project management exposure
