Software Development Manager - Inherent Relationships
DESCRIPTION Would you like to lead a team that enable retail features experienced by all your friends and family? Making use of state of the art Machine Learning, data pipelines and web applications built on AWS?

We are looking for outstanding Software Development Managers to lead Agile teams at our development centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. You will be delighting our customers through launching and growing initiatives for Amazon's global websites. Your team will own the business, technology and operations, giving you the responsibility and authority to ensure success.

You will be able to demonstrate skills in leadership, and impactful delivery, through multiple successful product release cycles. You will be able to prove your ability to collaborate and communicate well, with the team, local and remote peers, and senior leadership. You will not only be passionate about creating reliable and maintainable systems, but also motivated to develop high-performance teams through mentorship.

In this specific role, you will be one of two managers supporting the Inherent Relationships team which is composed of Machine Learning Scientists, Software Engineers and Program Managers. The team is responsible for inferring factual information about products in Amazon's catalog in order to power search and discovery as well as a variety of features across Amazon's customer experience (e.g. we are the reason the paperback and hardback share the same product detail page). Our work is characterized by advanced Machine Learning techniques (deep neural networks), high scale, complexity and a constant need for innovation.

You will be responsible for everything from business ideas through to technology, software engineering and operations. You and your team will be accountable for running the systems you build, continually inventing new features.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS • Significant experience in software engineering development and team lead roles, including line management.
• Computer Science Honours degree (2:1 or better) or postgraduate study. In lieu of degree, relevant skills and equivalent experience.
• Experience with best-practice software engineering such as Agile methods, automated testing, refactoring, source control management, continuous integration and deployment.
• Experience of end-to-end product ownership, working collaboratively to define projects, identify metrics, set goals, design, plan, develop, report, ship and iterate quickly.
• Analytical mindset and excellent problem solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience developing complex interactive web applications.
• Experience applying Machine Learning to a business problem
• Experience building applications with Amazon Web Services.
