Software Developer Engineer (SDE) apprenticeship
Amazon Development Centre Scotland is responsible for devising and growing innovations for Amazon around the world. Small teams of developers, designers and leaders run major parts of Amazon's business, technology and operations. You would join a team within Amazon Advertising, where our teams strive to reinvent the way advertisers and agencies build brands and drive performance in their advertising. By using Amazon's foundation in e-commerce, we help brands connect with the right customers through creative solutions and formats across screens and devices, and in the physical world.
As an SDE Apprentice you will work with cutting-edge technology, our Software Developers develop critical products for our customers, and offer excellent technical support. Developers at Amazon work on real world problems on a global scale, own systems end-to-end, and influence the direction of our technology that delights hundreds of millions of customers around the world. As an SDE Apprentice, you will be on a 48 month fixed term contract working with our software teams in our Edinburgh office.
A graduate apprenticeship is about much more than just getting a degree. Because it's work-based, you'll also gain a whole range of useful experience and skills. You will work towards honors degree in software development for business.
You will build your skills over a 48 month period - starting in September which will help you develop personally and professionally across the 4 years. You will attend a local university and cover four main areas;
• Classroom based training hosted offsite,
• On-the-job training ,
• Online learning,
• Mentoring from our Software developers.
Alongside extensive development of your technical skills, you will also grow your abilities in crucial complementary areas like organization, prioritization, data analysis and problem solving techniques, teamwork, communication, and presentation skills. By specializing in software development you will learn to design, build and test high-quality software solutions. You will be aiming to apply engineering principles to all stages of the software development process, from requirements, analysis and design, development and data requirements.
What we are looking for
Due to the nature of this role, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a keen interest and passion for in IT and technology, particularly within Software Development.
• You can follow a list of guidelines and instructions (verbal or written) to deliver results and meet deadlines
• You have a can-do attitude, flexible, adaptable and proactive
• You are a hard-working, focused individual who thrives as part of a team but can also work independently when required. Furthermore, you must have a strong desire to learn, develop and grow as an individual in both a personal and professional sense.
• You seek and respond well to feedback
• You aim to attain impeccable customer service, excellent customer facing skills
• You have attention to detail and have good oral and written communication skills.
Candidates should be 18 years or over and have the right to live and work in Scotland. You have a good fundamental understanding and experience of coding either certified or self-taught. You have ability to think creatively and apply analytical and problem solving skills, driving issues to resolution and also should have a deep interest in software development and strong willingness to learn.

Your recruitment process will start with your online application (providing your CV as well as answering questions about the above basic qualifications) and will then take you onto online testing by one of our recruiters.
As a last step, we will invite successful candidates to an assessment center where they will participate in a group exercise, execute a practical exercise and get a chance to present their profile, motivation and skills 1-on-1 during interviews or presentations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Academic qualifications
• 4 SQA Highers at Grade BBBB (or equivalent) including Computing or Maths
Note: This Apprenticeship assumes the candidate has little professional engineering experience and is NOT suitable for candidates who already have a software or computing degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Qualifications / skills
These will be a plus for your career at Amazon but are not necessary to enter the program.
