This role is within the Investment and Mutual Funds Risk Oversight team, part of Insurance & Wealth Risk (I&WR). As part of the 3 Lines of Defence model, I&WR are responsible for providing 2nd Line oversight and independent challenge to the effectiveness and application of the risk management framework, control environment and governance arrangements in place within Insurance and Wealth (the Division). The Investment and Funds Risk Oversight Team focus on the management arrangements for the Division's >£130b assets under management.

The Division is in a period of unprecedented change and growth whilst seeing increased regulatory scrutiny. As a Risk Manager you will challenge and influence decision making at a senior level, provide pragmatic advice on regulatory expectations, and uphold high ethical standards whilst striking the right balance between short versus long term objectives of the Division. Therefore to join us you will need experience of building strong relationships and providing constructive support and challenge at senior levels.

Ideally from either a Risk/Audit or Asset/Fund Management background, you will oversee the management of Compliance, Conduct and Operational risks within the Investment Strategy & Execution and Longstanding Investment Product Proposition functions. You will apply well-rounded risk skills in assessing business practices - putting customers first, while ensuring growth is sustainable and safe.

Key Accountabilities
Review, challenge and report on the risk profile of Insurance & Wealth, and ensure that mitigating actions are appropriate.

Provide 2nd Line oversight, challenge and opinion on the management of compliance, conduct and operational risks that fall within Investment Strategy & Execution and Longstanding Investment Product Propositions. This includes conducting reviews to assess adequacy and effectiveness of 1st Line governance and key controls.

Oversee compliance with the Risk Management Framework and relevant Group Policies.

Monitor delivery of specified change programmes against risk appetite providing early warning of potential issues.
Essential skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge and wide experience across financial services, with particular depth in investment business
  • Detailed knowledge of key relevant legal, regulatory and statutory requirements, in particular COLL/COBS/FUND
  • Ability to provide wise, concise and pragmatic advice on regulatory requirements and their application across all Insurance business disciplines
  • Professional qualification and/or significant experience in the risk management disciplines
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with ability to influence at all levels, across all audiences, and build strong working relationships
  • Upholds high ethical standards in all dealings and always strikes the right balance between short versus long term objectives of the Division
  • Proven experience of challenging and providing effective governance and oversight of significant/complex businesses
