Team Overview:
 
BlackRock’s Global Corporate Actions team has primary operating centers in Edinburgh (UK), Wilmington, Delaware (US), Gurgaon (India) and Singapore. Our objective is to manage and provide a high quality Corporate Action service in accordance with our standards of best practice through the application of governance and controls designed to mitigate risk to the Firm and our Clients. The team operates as a single, global entity designed around a robust and mature “pass-the-book” philosophy allowing effective and controlled transition of workload across our primary locations.

This is an Associate role based in our Edinburgh location. The successful candidate will be part of an expanding team. The role will be multi-functional commensurate with our primary objectives to ensure all Corporate Event related activity within our portfolio universe is captured, validated, elected (voluntaries) and any subsequent entitlements, cash or stock, are correctly processed and received timely. Responsibilities will extend to management of asset restrictions throughout the event life cycle and liaison with BlackRock’s Global Custodian network.

BlackRock’s proprietary operating platform is Aladdin. Within Aladdin there are a number of applications which includes the Corporate Actions Manager (CAM) which facilitates and supports workflow throughout the Corporate Event life cycle.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all corporate action events, including income events, are captured, and validated.
  • Interact with Portfolio Management Groups to ensure all necessary elections are received and acted upon.
  • Ensure all necessary corporate action instructions are issued and acknowledged by custodians and counterparties.
  • On a daily basis ensure that all corporate action events across all markets and asset types (equities, fixed income and derivatives) are correctly processed, reviewed and reconciled as necessary in accordance with procedures and event deadlines.
  • Monitor the Corporate Actions Manager (CAM) throughout the business day and, in conjunction with team members, effectively manage processing volumes over futures periods.
  • Investigate reconciliation discrepancies on a daily basis ensuring all discrepancies are resolved and cleared at the earliest opportunity
  • Ensure the appropriate restriction status of entitlements is maintained in BlackRock applications through interaction with custodians and update.
  • Manage any queries received from various internal and external parties.
  • Interact with other BlackRock teams and the third parties/custodians as appropriate.
  • Escalate all material risk items and service issues to your Team Leader/Manager on a timely basis.
  • Communication with Team Leaders and Global team managers to facilitate and support the global team structure.
  • Participate in local, regional and global initiatives/projects in conjunction with the Global Corporate Actions team.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of 3 years experience in a Corporate Action role and have a general understanding of Financial Markets, preferably within the Investment Management or Global Custody environment.
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate participation in change management through project work or other process efficiencies.
  • A good understanding of derivative products and stock lending would be an advantage.

  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Acute attention to detail and understanding of downstream processes
  • Possess a good understanding of the risks inherent in the corporate actions environment and demonstrate good discipline around control and escalation.
  • Candidates should demonstrate appropriate levels of academic achievement or relevant work experience
