We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to work with us on DWP's central payments system. You'll innovate and make changes that are critical to initiatives across the DWP digital landscape, designing and implementing infrastructure services and solutions to will improve the way we make payments to millions of UK citizens.

We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to developing and implementing robust infrastructure services and solutions for our Central Payment Systems. You'll also be monitoring performance and tuning for Oracle databases, so you should have experience with large-scale infrastructure development.

You'll be a respected senior voice on our team and in our Infrastructure community. You'll be able to share your knowledge and help those around you, as well as contributing to improvement plans, identifying current and potential issues and outlining appropriate solutions.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • You design, implement, administer and support infrastructure technologies, solutions and services such as: compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructures, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including PaaS, SaaS.
  • You have a deep understanding of the technical concepts associated with this role, and you understand how these fit into the wider technical landscape, and their limits.
  • You can analyse and accurately interpret data from various sources to support decisions; you find the best option by identifying positives, negatives, risks and implications.
  • You have experience building and developing a centralised Data Platform for collecting and analysing large sets of data originating from disparate sources. And experience using multiple data management toolsets across various operating systems.
  • You have experience with Data Centre Security, including security products and countermeasure techniques e.g. Firewalls, Server hardening.

In addition, you will ideally have experience of some of the following (or be prepared to build skills in these areas):

  • Oracle E-Business Suite from 11.5.10 to 12.2.91.
  • Oracle database from 11g to 19c.
  • Oracle Fusion Middleware in an E-Business suite context.
  • Oracle Automatic Storage Management.
  • Oracle Data Guard.
  • IBM AIX 6.1 to 7.26.
