The University of Gloucester is seeking to hire an Infrastructure professional to support technical and take on supplier management responsibility regarding our server and storage infrastructure .

You are expected to understand the technical requirements of the University and will in the majority of cases be responsible for undertaking the technical work. You will work closely with the Senior System Developer (Desktop) and Senior System Network/Tel/DC team members to ensure consistency of service.

In addition you will work with the Information Security and Cyber Developer who will provide mutual backup around the virtualise storage and server estate. You will not be expected to be a commercial expert but is expected to be able to build strong technical relationships with commercial suppliers.

Core Responsibilities

Take responsibility for the technical management, implementation and operational development of key contracted services for the University. This covers the core server and storage contract, the print management contract and the Microsoft O365 contract.

Ensure that the University can act as an intelligent customer by maintaining technical awareness of developments in the areas covered by the contract and to be able to make technical decisions on changes proposed by the Suppliers, or to ensure that future replacement contracts are specified to sector best practice.

Lead the specification and build of new virtual server templates for the server and storage contracted service when needed, and to provide the capability to build ad hoc virtual instances from scratch when required.

Lead the development of the Microsoft provided O365 service and to lead development efforts to configure and make the most of the various elements of the O365 service.
