The Business
Join Ulster Bank as Head of Remediation Oversight in Belfast or Dublin

  • Take on an important role in our Compliance Risk team and help us ensure we maintain a robust risk culture which always puts our customers first
  • You'll be leading a team of risk professionals and overseeing remediation activity across the business at a senior level, advising the Ulster Bank executive board on strategic cases
  • You'll be involved in crucial decision-making which will help shape the future of our business and ensure we have a forward-looking risk culture in place with our customers' interests at its heart

What you'll do

You'll be providing regulatory advice which will enable the business to meet its strategic goals and deliver remediation projects fairly, effectively, and in line with our regulatory responsibilities. This will involve taking overall responsibility for remediation activity within the business and representing the bank to our regulators with regards to strategic cases. Where mistakes have been made you will champion our customers and make sure that they are fully re;mediated and the right lessons are drawn.

You'll also be leading, developing and inspiring a team of risk professionals who will support you in this work, and you'll be fostering a collaborative, high performing team culture, with a focus on future talent development.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and implementing a robust root cause analysis process and using that process to identify the cause of the remediation issues and what needs to be done to rectify them
  • Having remediation oversight across Ulster Bank to ensure that the lessons learned from these strategic cases are implemented and applied across the full product lifecycle
  • Conducting thorough analyses of remediation matters through a focus on customer outcomes and developing insights to support the bank in learning the lessons of remediation exercises
  • Providing direction and advice on the interpretation and potential impact of current and future regulation as it relates to potential strategic cases, liaising with Conduct & Regulatory Affairs colleagues in the process
  • Being an active member of the relevant governance forums to challenge the business on the design, policies and effectiveness of remediation programmes

The skills you'll need

You'll need leadership and senior managerial experience in financial services, and an excellent understanding of regulatory risk in a banking environment. You'll have experience of providing expert input into regulatory issues, and of delivering robust root cause analysis processes across a complex organisation. Knowledge of the local regulatory context in which Ulster Bank operates would also be an advantage.

We'll look to you to demonstrate:
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and, where necessary, give challenge at senior and executive levels
  • Experience working with external regulatory bodies, and of building trusting and productive relationships both internally and externally
  • The proven ability to lead and develop high performing teams of multi-skilled professionals including recruitment, talent development and performance management
  • Knowledge of risk management measures, controls and related operational issues
