The Business
Join us as Head of Prudential Risk Management in Dublin or Belfast

  • Take on an important role in our Compliance Risk team and help us shape a robust, customer-focused risk culture right across our business
  • You'll develop a prudential risk framework to ensure that Ulster Bank remains fully compliant with its regulatory responsibilities, and that legislative and regulatory risks are managed appropriately
  • You'll be advising at an executive level on all prudential risk related regulatory issues
  • This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of our business at an exciting time of change, and make sure we keep our customers' best interests at the heart of everything we do

What you'll do

You'll develop a prudential risk framework for Ulster Bank, which is aligned to our overall risk management framework and fully takes into account our regulatory responsibilities. You'll also provide effective second line of defence oversight of prudential regulatory compliance across Ulster Bank, including development and execution of a compliance plan for prudential regulation.

This will involve leading, developing and inspiring a team of risk professionals, and fostering a collaborative, high performing team culture.

Your responsibilities will also include:
  • Keeping abreast of all regulatory developments and ensuring Ulster Bank compliance on prudential risk with external regulators including the CBI, ECB, PRA and other bodies
  • Advising the Ulster Bank board, board risk committee and bank-wide audit committee, ExCo and executive risk committee on prudential risk management and regulatory development
  • Proactively keeping up to date with all external macro risk factors and global developments which affect the bank's prudential risk assurance and advising the Ulster Bank board and ExCo on these
  • Owning and managing key stakeholder relationships for prudential risk at Ulster Bank ExCo and RBS executive level, and externally with the CBI and ECB
  • Working closely with Compliance, RBS Risk and Finance, including Treasury, to identify key areas for prudential risk reviews

You'll be providing challenge where necessary, and balancing a risk and business lens, so our bank continues to grow sustainably, and in line with our core values and responsibilities. Ultimately you'll be putting customers at the heart of everything we do to enable Ulster Bank to meet its ambition of becoming number 1 bank for customer service, trust and advocacy.

The skills you'll need

You'll need leadership and senior managerial experience in financial services, and a deep understanding of prudential and regulatory risk. Treasury or finance experience would be an advantage, as would an accountancy qualification or comparable experience. You'll also need excellent stakeholder management and advisory skills, with the ability to influence and, where necessary, give challenge at executive levels. Knowledge of the local regulatory environment in which Ulster Bank operates would also be a significant advantage.

We'll look to you to demonstrate:
  • The proven ability to lead, develop and motivate a high performing team
  • Prudential risk management experience
  • Knowledge of risk management measures, controls and related regulatory issues in a banking context
  • A record of improving business performance and operational control and risk culture
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships both internally, across Ulster Bank, RBS, and with external regulators

How we'll reward you

In return, we offer a competitive salary plus a 31% individually tailorable cash and benefit funding programme. In addition, we provide a wide selection of exclusive lifestyle offers, development and learning programmes, services and support designed to help you manage and balance your work/life priorities.
