Job Purpose:

Part of the ICG/CPB Risk Management function - which is responsible for the control, oversight and credit transactions, across all products.  Private Bank clients are both Onshore and Offshore and the management of their facilities involves extensive interaction with the various Marketing Units, Investment Finance Specialist and Capital Markets trading desk.

Job background/ context:

The CPB Investment Finance (IF) business offers a diverse range of products covering margin and securities backed loans, residential and commercial real estate lending, FX and Derivative trading facilities, Art and Aircraft loans as well as Private Equity Capital Call facilities.  The Collateral Monitoring Unit (part of ICG Risk) acts as a control and support function for the CPB IF lending organisation. The team are responsible for monitoring collateral positions versus exposures, issuance of margin calls, credit disbursement approvals and providing interim credit authorisation for securities trading and other client account activities. UK and Western Europe are covered via a 9am to 5pm shift and the US and LATAM are covered via a 2pm to 10/11pm shift.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collateral monitoring and oversight of the key credit systems and the issuance of margin calls
  • Providing pre-trade approvals (PSE and Initial Margin) for FX and derivative trades.
  • Maintenance of initial margin and PSE limits in margin systems for FX and derivative trades post trade execution.
  • Limit Monitoring and Unmatched Transaction Monitoring - regularising and escalating unmatched exceptions and excesses over approved trading lines
  • Assisting Private Bankers, Investment Councillors and support staff in determining loanable values for eligible marketable securities and obtaining Cross Border allocations, as necessary.
  • Providing intra-day credit approvals for security purchases, funds transfer approvals and collateral releases
  • Monitoring of Collateral pool concentration/liquidity migration - review and monitor control reports and raise margin call exceptions to underwriters and bankers for approvals and re-balancing of collateral pools.
  • Maintenance of the margin system for off-balance sheet collateral to ensure timely update of Market Value/Loanable Values
  • Maintenance of security loanable value tables in margin systems in conjunction with the LV analyst
  • Tailored margin monitoring
  • Security Stale Price reporting and investigations with Security Operations team and Risk Securities Analyst.
  • Regulatory reporting; 23A, Reg W, Purchase Money Finance (PMF) reporting on new security purchases.
  • Monitoring and supervision of the credit system order investigations queue for CPB EMEA and North America branches
  • Daily interaction with client facing teams and product teams
  • Applying CPB Credit Policy rules and other internal policies prior to releasing or rejecting any orders in the investigations queue
  • The ability to prioritise and reprioritise orders in the investigations queue based on deadlines

Qualifications

Knowledge/ Experience:

  • Highly motivated and innovative individual with experience of the following: -
  • Good credit administration experience together with an understanding of financial instruments and credit.  Knowledge of foreign exchange and derivative products would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Good general administration and organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to identify and communicate operational and control weaknesses and propose workable solutions
  • Methodical and rigorous follow up on problem issues
  • Strong initiative and interactive approach to problem solving

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills required (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to be able to interact with all levels of staff in the Private Bank and Risk community.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and Word
  • Good administration and organisational skills preferably with previous experience of working to deadlines, attention to detail and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Strong initiative and interactive approach to problem solving
  • Ability to identify and communicate operational and control weaknesses and propose workable solutions
