The role is based within the Business Relationship Management (“BRM”) group in Barcelona, which leads business development and marketing efforts for Fitch Rating’s Corporate market segment franchise.
The “BRM” team is responsible for managing Fitch Rating’s relationships with Issuers, Sponsors, Investment Banks and Debt Advisors as well as retaining the existing relationship and generating new rating mandates through direct interaction with Issuers and Bankers. The EMEA BRM team has representatives across our EMEA branch network including London, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Milan, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Dubai, Riyadh, Moscow and Warsaw.
The successful candidate will be based in Barcelona and be responsible for supporting the relationship development and marketing efforts of a senior BRM member, as well as building their own relationships as the candidate progresses in the role. This position will suit someone who is keen to develop a career in a business development role with front line relationship management. The role has a high component of client interaction with issuers and bankers/debt market professionals. The role requires an organized, enthusiastic and proactive person with high level of initiative and an ability to follow different tasks/transactions simultaneously. A result driven approach will be necessary to grow within the role.
Support the development of a portfolio of Issuer and Banker contacts
Develop relationships with key contacts and set up regular meetings to deliver Fitch marketing messages, including recent transaction summaries, pricing studies, etc. Participate in some contract renegotiations if necessary on key names.
Work flow planning
Interaction with other team junior marketing associates, managing workflows, and providing training where required in office and data systems.
Research and develop business development strategies
Research and identify new business transaction opportunities with Issuers, Sponsors, Bankers, and Debt Advisors. Development and execution of marketing plans to pursue opportunities of generating new rating mandates with Fitch Analytical teams. Produce lists of comparable transactions in other markets.
Research and preparation of business development materials
Prepare pitch books, case studies and tombstones. Develop new persuasive business development materials to support marketing efforts.
Interaction with internal and external parties
Keep and maintain fluent internal interaction with other Fitch members as well as external parties. Set up meetings with known and unkown 3rd parties and coordinate different team agendas with internal and external parties. Be able to liaise amongst the different teams to support marketing actions.
Attend external meetings with senior team members and assist proactively in following up on action points. Take an active role in participating in meetings and interacting with external clients, building relationships with Issuers, Sponsors, Bankers and Debt Advisors.
Represent Fitch at internal and external industry events/conferences, with some organisational responsibilities. Network with market participants – Issuers, Sponsors, Bankers, Debt Advisors – gather market intelligence and promote the Fitch rating proposition.
Reporting and Data Base
Attend internal/external meetings, draft minutes/call notes for inclusion in the Fitch CRM system (Salesforce). Keep data base and CRM systems updated and be able to run reports to support Marketing efforts. Utilise Salesforce to record marketing activity, manage targeted mailing, and measure performance.
Prepare reports when needed for both internal and external distribution.
Capital markets data analysis
Utilise data relating to the Debt Capital Markets (provided by Bloomberg, Reuters, Dealogic, etc) to monitor market activity. Manage and update databases, identify trends relevant to Fitch Ratings’ business development efforts, and develop tools to support BRM’s wider marketing aims. Assist with competitor intelligence and analysis.
Qualifications and experience:
- Financial industry experience, ideally gained through exposure to debt capital markets, banking, corporate finance, or credit analysis
- Degree educated (a finance or business related subject would be an advantage)
- Strong knowledge of preparing marketing/business development materials using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint showing excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrable knowledge of research, analysis and interpretation of large data sets. Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with CRM (Client Relationship Management) systems (ie Salesforce) – and report generation and Excel downloads
- Strong knowledge of Capital Markets data systems such as Bloomberg, ThomsonReuters, Dealogic
- Good understanding of the IG, HY, Leveraged Finance and Private Equity sectors
- Knowledge of the Spanish Corporate market would be highly appreciated
- Strong communication and presentation skills, verbal & written in both Spanish and English at least are required
- Ability to work independently within a strategic framework, with supervision and guidance from senior team members, and demonstrating the flexibility to meet tight deadlines
- Team oriented, with the ability to confidently establish relationships internally and externally within an international business environment
- Enthusiastic and willing to learn
