This position is responsible to provide support on daily basis to the handymax pacific commercial team and to drive process efficiency. Tasks includes feed and maintaining accurate information in the systems, gathering nomination data and communicating it to customers, producing statistics for analysis, communicate between operation and commercial team, reconciling risk position and PNL figures.

Principal 

40%

  • Maintain cash book updated near real time and enter fixtures in the system
  • Constant communication with Operations to reflect changes in vessel prospects
  • Synchronization with the contract desk to ensure alignment between IMOS and cash book
  • Enter/ schedule shipments in IMOS system; challenge trader/operator’s assumptions on best performance speed, cargo intake etc.
  • Monitor COA shipment declarations
  • Drive process efficiency in that domain

20%

  • Vessel nominations
  • Collect nomination information and follow up with customers until acceptance
  • Address customers’ needs with trading team

15%

  • Analysis
  • Drive process efficiency in that domain
  • Provide weekly Vessel/Cargo counts, size spreads, supply and demand data
  • Organize variance meeting, analyse and challenge the PNL variance in applications

10%

  • Risk position and PNL reconciliation
  • Follow up entry of new contracts
  • Verify impact of nominations and various changes

15%

  • Other duties as assigned 
  • Circulate market orders on behalf of the trading team
  • Important documents sharing/storage
  • Ensure Chinsay compliance of our contracts
  • Calculate the final hire/ freight for the unpriced contracts settlement calculations

 

Education, Experience, Skills

Required Qualifications

  • University or polytechnic with relevant studies 
  • 0-3 years of experience in a trading/shipping environment
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Analytical and numerate
  • Computer literate, strong Excel skills a plus
  • Able to develop a working relationship with people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in a trading/shipping environment
  • Process honoring, taste for optimizing repetitive tasks
  • Shipping technical knowledge is a strong plus 
  • Fluent in English and familiarity with other language(s)
  • Main shipping concepts and practices
  • Understanding of what Contract Desk, Operations, Finalization and Admin require from trading
  • Strong customer focus mindset
  • Risk management basics
  • May be required to work with different time zones such as Australia or Europe.
  • Occasional requirement to solve issues at weekends or late at night.
  • Open floor (noise level can be high)
  • International environment requiring strong communication skills, close collaboration, teamwork and cross-culture awareness
  • No or extremely limited requirement to travel
