  • A track record in either Project Management or Program Management of min 15 years held in either a commodities environment or related physical/financial institution.
  • Has a good understanding of the commodity trading life cycle and have interfaced with various ETRM/CTRM systems
  • A deep understanding of both Physical & Financial markets preferably in the mining or commodities industry.

 

Our client is a renowned and global Commodity Trading MNC (based in town).  This is a senior role whereby you are part of the Information Management (IM) department that is tasked to enable the delivery of business processes, compliance, controls and decision support through the deployment, support and maintenance of the firm’s global commodity trading and Marketing business-wide front, middle and back office technology applications and infrastructure in order to support the commodity’s business growth.

 

PURPOSE

Accountable to specific Business Divisions with a responsibility to both enhance and support IM Tools and Systems in-line with the firm’s Roadmap & Architecture.

 

TYPICAL TASKS

  • The Construction & Maintenance of a Roadmap & Architectural Transition Vision that can be articulated clearly to Business Stakeholders and give clear direction to IM teams tasked with its implementation.
  • Maintenance of a ‘Book of Work’ in a well-structured form to give both Business and IM Stakeholders transparency on progress and prioritisation.
  • The ability to be able to be a key influencer in the prioritisation process with senior management, where key drivers may include Safety, Security, Audit, P&L or software performance factors.
  • Ensure that Global Stakeholders are kept abreast of project progress and conflicts & issues via the chairing of committees such as working groups and steering meetings.
  • Be able to provide leadership, mentoring & effective delegation to more junior members of staff and provide coaching on performance in line with career goals.
  • Ensuring that any systems falling within the remit of the role remain compliant and fulfil any audit requirements that the firm must comply with, both internal and external
  • Thought leadership – drive workshops and sessions that look to innovate using emerging technologies or business processes.
  • Be able to provide SME knowledge both from a business or technical perspective should the Support Team escalate BAU or operational issues/incidents.
  • Provide training & workshops to new members of staff or conduct workshops to business groups not familiar with the toolsets that IM are implementing.
  • Be the conduit with external vendors and manage scope of new work, change requests and opex budgets 
  • Be ‘hands on’ should the project needs arise, which may involve doing detailed technical or business analysis, configuring tools, testing creating prototypes or ‘proof of concepts’.
  • Liaising with the wider IM groups such as Cloud or Data lake to be able to articulate how Marketing IM systems fit into the broader firm’s landscape.
  • Contribute the expanding collateral of the knowledge base, specifically around tools and process that have been implemented.
  • Manage change by building close relationships with stakeholders and putting together clear transition plans that are cognisant of adoption and manage risks.
  • Be abreast of changes in the wider industry both in Commodities/Mining but within technology and incorporate best practice where applicable to tools and processes within the firm’s domain.

  • Trading systems provider (Aspect)
  • Shipping systems provider (Veson)
  • Networking (BT, HCL)
  • Cloud providers( Azure)

 

Direct Reports (if applicable):

  • Trading systems specialist
  • Trading and Shipping systems specialist

 

Required qualifications:

  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelor's degree or equivalent), ideally in a technical degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Pure Science).
  • A track record of min 15 years either gained in Project Management or Program Management held in either a commodities environment or related physical/financial institution.
  • Has a good understanding of the commodity trading life cycle and have interfaced with various ETRM/CTRM systems
  • Has Enterprise Architecture & Design experience
  • A deep understanding of both Physical & Financial markets preferably in the mining or commodities industry.
  • Physical logistics such as shipping, railing, trucking.
  • SME knowledge of a commodities value chain (Inc. Trade lifecycle), end to end from Production through to Shipping (Inc. Contract to cash)
  • Financial Products such as Swaps, Exchange Futures and Options
  • Domain knowledge in Market risk to include an appreciation of, methodologies such as Var.
  • Middle office, P&L (including attribution)
  • Credit Risk and appreciation for exposure
  • Finance & accounting, understanding sub-ledgers, ERP and financial postings.
  • A knowledge of tax and its operation in difference jurisdictions.

 

Technical Skills 

  • Extensive experience of both the implementation & enhancement of CTRM/ERTM systems in a related industry, for example Endur, Triplepoint, Aspect.
  • Good working knowledge of RDBMS systems and an appreciation for NoSQL/ Big data implementations
  • Have implemented solutions using the Microsoft Stack of technologies to include, Azure, PowerBI, C#, SQL Server, Angular, REST.
  • Familiar with Prototyping tools such as Adobe XD.
  • An appreciation of Machine learning and Industrial Mathematics for problem solving.
  • Strong Excel/Excel VBA skills
  • An appreciation for the SAP architecture, specifically FI/Web Methods.

  • Be an exceptional influencer able to manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve required outcomes
  • Provide leadership to a geographically diverse team, with varying levels of expertise in the subject
  • Ability to facilitate agreement and co-operation using a diplomatic and open approach
  • Effective in working with diverse teams and sensitive to local social, political  and cultural realities
  • Comfortably interact across all mediums of interaction i.e. face to face vs virtual interactions with team and stakeholders
  • Uses networks in all stages of decision making to ensure decisions are not made in isolation, though not to the extent that would be seen as abdicating responsibility
