The Role Responsibilities
Standard Chartered is a leading international bank operating in some of the most dynamic markets in the world, in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
This role will be part of the team which owns complete ownership for reporting, analytics as well as commercial aspects with respect to the CPBB cost base covering core Retail, Private and Business banking costs.
The incumbent will hold ownership to support some of the key business / finance stakeholders, own some assigned cost lines, process / agenda towards BAU and project engagement. It will require strong self-starting & hands-on skills, innovation and willingness to work with limited direct supervision. There is an expectation that the selected individual will have the potential to raise the bar on performance by setting high quality standard in supporting demanding senior stakeholders.
The successful candidate needs to develop a strong understanding of CPBBs cost dynamics, drivers and trends impacting the business, as well as the opportunity to influence strategic decision making. The role suits an individual with strong analytical, problem solving & change management skills with experience of driving change within large multinational company.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
The role reports to Executive Director, CPBB Cost management and key responsibilities includes the following:
  • Manage BAU support related to all assigned cost lines, process and stakeholders.
  • Own timely and accurate delivery of all monthly core cost reporting (including month-end flash, commentary, outlook and business efficiency tracking) including collaboration with Regional/ Country and Group business finance teams to provide quality management information to senior management.
  • Partner with GFS team to help build standard reporting framework and support / hand hold to keep a robust control on all decks getting created / circulated.
  • Drive financial analysis including trend analysis, risks / opportunities identification and volumes / headcount driver-based reporting etc to assist business in cost optimization.
  • Build sharp cost analytics and bring required visibility / modelling to help business take appropriate business decisions.
  • Drive transparency, simplify, automation and build for future to be the core agenda.
  • Partner with stakeholders yet constructively challenge to drive efficiency agenda to self-fund growth. Drive the successful delivery of CPBB cost approach & outcomes for Group
  • Planning events (Budgets, Forecasts and Corporate Plans) including preparation, validation and consolidation of submissions from regions.
  • Conduct regular reviews on service charges / cost allocations from products and functions, ensuring alignment to agreed allocation drivers and keys.
  • Support efficiency program and represent finance in workstreams meetings.
  • Responsible for the delivery of all cost FP&A processes for the businesses
  • Ensure appropriate governance is in place for the businesses
  • Ensure compliance with Group accounting principles and practices, financial control policy, and other regulatory accounting guidelines

As Senior Member of the team
  • Set the right example and build the appropriate culture and values in the team. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team members and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
  • Coach junior team members, partner with GFS team members to help align the objective / vision of the team.
  • Help drive the finance culture, people and process / be the change agenda.
Risk Management
  • Ability to interpret the Group's financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures
  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
  • Own the assigned processes and its governance.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure that the Cost team achieves the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles : Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment .
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters as they arise in connection with the role

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 10+ years experience in the banking industry preferably in Retail finance or FP&A teams
  • Relevant accounting qualification (such as CIMA / ACCA)
  • Experience of dealing directly with senior management within a large multinational organisation, preferably Financial Institution
  • Proven ability to drive change, strong team working and networking capability, success of role is reliant on ability to work with many different teams effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, clear, concise and at appropriate levels of details to tailor to different audiences and purposes
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, multitask and respond in short timeframes
  • High level of numeracy and detailed oriented
  • Ability to demonstrate the Bank's values in achieving objectives
Role Specific Technical Competencies
  • Excellent communication, influencing and collaboration skills as role involves engagement with large number of stakeholders
  • Excel modelling and Power point skills - required to be forward looking in analysis while also be able to conceptualise and draft sharp and impactful ways to communicate messaging on behalf of the business through power points
