Legal Department

The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation's lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.

Corporate and Regulatory Legal ( Corp and Reg )

The Corp and Reg legal team (including Data and Data Privacy) is part of the JPM Legal Department and focusses on the following key areas which are cross-LOB and apply enterprise- wide, i.e.:

  • Global financial crimes and political law;
  • Global real estate
  • Technology;
  • Data;
  • Corporate Law;
  • Treasury and Chief Investment Office; and
  • Regulatory Law

Position Overview and Responsibilities

The position will sit within Corp and Reg and the APAC Legal Team. The key responsibilities will include:

  • Advisory : Working closely as a partner and SME with relevant internal stakeholders to provide legal advice on all Data Privacy related matters for APAC and to facilitate activities across functional teams to ensure coordinated efforts in relation to Data and Data Privacy;

  • Data Protection: Identification, management, and mitigation of data-related risks and compliance with data laws such as privacy, secrecy, blocking, professional confidentiality, localization, cross-border transfer, and breach;

  • Regulatory change : Identifying Data Privacy-related legal and regulatory risks and recommend/implement changes to mitigate/manage these risks appropriately using strong judgement and commercial acumen;
  • Data governance: Representing the Legal Department in JPM Data Governance forums as necessary (including reviewing data use cases);
  • Advocacy: Working closely with ORA, GR and control functions in advocacy matters relating to Data Privacy, Data Protection and use and localization in the APAC locations; and

  • Knowledge and procedures: Assisting with developing systems, training, procedure writing, program documentation and execution of procedures in support of Data Privacy documentation review standards.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience working either in-house, in legal practice or with a regulator on Data Privacy and Data-related matters (including advising on implementation of Data Privacy regulations, analysis of relevant regulatory developments and working on incidents of data breaches);
  • Good understanding of current trends in data including data protection and stewardship, data monetization and interaction with cyber and cloud initiatives;
  • Ability to effectively partner with all levels across a diverse set of functions, locations and business;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills;
  • Strong analytic skills and ability to distill large bodies of information into key messages;
  • Outstanding problem-solving capabilities - ability to analyze novel scenarios with limited precedent, perform self-guided research and offer creative solutions;
  • Experience working with cross-functional groups in a complex line of business, advising on new procedures, processes and systems is a plus;
  • Experience of working on APAC matters will be an advantage.


Attorneys must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing or otherwise eligible to practice law in the jurisdiction in which the position is based.
