Director, Asia Pacific Licensing & Exchange Relationships
S&P Global Platts

The Role: Director, Asia Pacific Licensing and Exchange Relationships

Grade ( relevant for internal applicants only ): 12

Location: Singapore

The Team / The Business: The Global Licensing and Exchange Relationships Team (Licensing) plays a key role in monetizing Platts' price assessments through commercial arrangements with Exchanges. The team manages the complex relationships with these business partners, which involve both revenue and costs for Platts. With staff in the Americas, London, and Singapore, Licensing has a global remit to drive growth from emerging commodity markets in addition to managing the commercial arrangements for longstanding benchmarks.

As one of the four operating companies under the umbrella of financial information services leader S&P Global, Platts is the gold standard in commodity market news, pricing, and analytics. Platts benchmark price assessments are used to settle tens of millions of dollars of transactions every day, and underpin hundreds of derivatives contracts listed on exchanges. Branching out from its roots in oil, Platts has established a leading presence across commodities including the emerging Energy Transition space.

What we're looking for: The ideal candidate for the Director, Asia Pacific (APAC) Licensing and Exchange Relationships role will be driven and ambitious while disciplined enough to zero in on the highest value opportunities. As Licensing's leader in the APAC region, the candidate will be a confident communicator able to build relationships and manage negotiations with key exchange executives in the region. They will be a self-starter able to manage initiatives and negotiations autonomously while keeping stakeholders in the loop. This role's focus is forging relationships outside of Platts, so the right fit will be outgoing and ready for face-to-face meetings when business travel resumes.

Responsibilities:
Develop and implement regional strategy
  • Develop and implement a holistic APAC exchange strategy, identifying and prioritizing key regions, commodities, and exchange partners
  • Work with Commercial and other stakeholders to provide the exchange component of broader China go-to-market strategy
Manage inbound and outbound new business opportunities
  • Establish and grow relationships with exchanges in the APAC region
  • Respond to partnership inquiries from exchanges, collaborating with Content and other functions to demonstrate Platts' market-leading offerings
  • Develop and implement new business initiatives with a focus on the licensing of Platts assessments to exchanges
Manage negotiations and execute new deals
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders to structure new commercial arrangements in addition to monitoring compliance with existing contracts
  • Lead negotiations with regional exchanges for the use of their data in price assessment process and redistribution
Lead Licensing team in APAC region
  • Partner with regional Commercial and Content teams on strategic Greater China business development initiative
  • Have direct responsibility for the management and growth of key exchange relationships in the region.
  • Shepherd regional out-bound license negotiations from term sheet stage to execution stage by coordinating GTS, legal, editorial, and commercial resources globally
  • Monitor and respond to exchange strategy as it relates to pricing mechanisms, new commodities, and interaction with Price Reporting Agencies including but not limited to Platts
  • Maintain active communication with other functions including Content, Sales and Marketing to assure these stakeholders understand Licensing's APAC priorities and vice versa.
