Linux Engineer (1 year contract)

  • Lead and deliver enterprise level Linux patch, update, upgrade or server build / provisioning
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies to support business needs
  • Increase our agility by developing build automation, faster and more flexible deployment techniques, powerful configuration management
  • Identify and automate manual tasks and processes
  • Advanced configuration and administration of Linux servers
  • Work with internal business partners to develop requirements and solutions
  • Expand and evolve our infrastructure across dedicated hosted systems and cloud based deployments
  • Develop sophisticated and flexible monitoring services to highlight performance and availability issues
  • Support and maintain production systems (including on-call cover where required)
  • Adherence to ITIL standards and processes


  • Strong Automation Skills essential
  • Patch management skill sets
  • Patch failure troubleshooting skill sets
  • Patch success and failure reporting management (update and tracking)
  • In depth knowledge of Linux, Redhat and Suse (multiple versions) essential
  • Experience supporting a LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) required
  • Knowledge of virtualization and cloud technologies, VMWare, vRealize required
  • Knowledge of docker and container technology preferred
  • Scripting languages, shell scripting, Perl, bash, Python, Javascript essential
  • Infrastructure automation and orchestration tools, AutoYaST, Kickstart, BMC Bladelogic, vRealize, CA process Automation preferred
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes required
  • Highly proficient troubleshooting and support skills within virtual technologies essential
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations is essential
  • Being self-motivated and self-accountable for delivery and adherence to standards and delivery timelines is essential
